Confidence is an attitude that comes from doing. But most people are permission seeking so they deny themselves the opportunity to do what they want to do.
But confidence is not needed to do what you want to do. That just requires persistence.
You can “do” and be full of doubt and anxiety. Confidence is not certainty.
Confidence is instead an aura of capability that reveals itself. A vision. An affirmation.
It is not something you can “gain”, just uncover. It is a state of being, not a possession.
Uncover it. And Stop asking others for whic they cannot provide.

For your business it’s better to: Show, don’t tell
There’s an old adage in storytelling that advises you to ‘Show, don’t tell’. The idea is that you don’t tell readers too much information out straight, because this would get very boring very quickly. Instead the writer must learn to convey to give readers a SENSE of what is happening.
For example, instead of saying:
“Marshal was very anxious before performing” the writer might say something like
“Palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy, there’s vomit on his sweater already…”
What the writer has done here is IMPLIED that Marshall is nervous by showing or describing what is going on.
In deciding what you share on social media, the same formula applies.
80% of what you share should be “showing” what you do or the results of what you do, and 20% should be telling.
Eminem doesn’t tell you that he’s nervous until 17 words into the verse and after Mom’s spaghetti. And it makes for a far more memorable story.
Show, Don’t Tell.
Stay tuned to learn how you can apply this technique on your social media.
One of my favourite videos from #DublinFilmFestival that captures the community spirit of the Irish Premiere of Dark Horse on the Wind. The sensational voice of @daoirifarrellmusic narrates the scene. I love doing these types of videos as they involve capturing moments and weaving a story- they are not planned shot by shot but just left open to whatever the event unveils. When I get to the editing stage, it’s then the story unfolds.
We’re going to be announcing big things in the coming months so stay tuned to @dublinfilmfestival for details!

If you're like me, you often struggle to remember events in Cork that catch your eye & then when you do remember, you forget where you saw it- leading to the frantic keyword searches.
"Where did I see that again?"🤔
Or worse, you see stories on IG whilst you're tucking into dinner. I give myself FOMO by not remembering when things are on! 😭
I drew up a quick visual reminder for myself and said I'd share it with ye on socials. I always say that if we want a thriving Arts scene, we should support those efforts in the city.
So here are some events I'm looking forward to attending (& remembering) this month in #corkcity

🚨Instagram updates alert! 🚨
I've been basking in the sun and basking in the new updates announced by the Head of IG.
Mr. Instagram aka Adam Mosseri took to the platform last night to tell users that they are expecting to launch a new Instagram feed in *hopefully* the first half of this year. This means businesses need to be ready to adapt to the new changes.
Mr Instagram told his fans that they are currently testing these features and:
"These tests include an ability to switch between three different views on your home screen (two of which would give you the option to see posts in chronological order):
- Home
- Favorites
- Following"
Mosseri told viewers that he wanted to give users "more control" over their feed.
"Home" will basically look like the feed you have now where Instagram will present you with content they think you'll be interested in. This means, the algorithm is still in charge. And Instagram will be pushing more and more recommendations over time, he said.
"Favourites" sounds like it does exactly what it says on the tin...you add your favs to this list and you'll be able to access a filtered feed of just your favourite accounts.
"Following" will be a chronological feed where you can view posts as they are posted. This is a function users have been calling for, for years. So it's a taste of the old Instagram.
I've seen social media managers already talking about how businesses will need to strategise to get onto the "favourites" tab. Personally, I will hold out judgement until I start to see how users actually use the new features. Many a time IG has rolled out features only for them to be discontinued because of lack of use.
However, if this feature becomes popular, then businesses will want to include 'being added to favourites' into their Instagram strategy.
Those who follow me know that I've been complaining about my feed being messed up recently which I suspect means I am one of the chosen ones! Into each generation...
To keep up
You guyyyys, what is the 411? What has [Meta aka Facebook] been UP to?
I've been hearing whispers of updates on the *lowers voice* Metaverse. When these features are rolled out, you need to be ready.
Here are three updates you should care about:
📚Instagram is testing longer stories (about time)- to 60 seconds
😲 WhatsApp might be getting a Reels tab- Reels will be shared natively in WhatsApp so they will be easier to view and share
👀 Coming soon: Facebook has a new analytics feature in Creator Studio- The inspiration hub displays popular hashtags and vids by similar businesses. You can also search for winder trends across the platform.
What does it mean:
1. You hold people's attention longer (but you still need to be a good story teller) and share reels without cutting off.
More importantly: If the platform launches this feature they will also be encouraging people to use it, which means bigger reach. Start getting comfortable on camera!
2. Your reels could get into private messaging more easily so start brainstorming
3. Creator studio will help you with your hashtag game and keep up with trends-USE IT. It may not be available everywhere just yet but keep an eye out when it does.
What do you think of these updates? What would you like to see added to IG or FB?
