I met jai in the early days of December 1989. I was only 19 performing lucky Dube songs in Alleluia band at the Limbe Auction floor for a catholic fundraising activity.
I believe he was in his early thirties. I had been hearing him sing the famous sign tune of "Am not a teacher, am not a manager, am just an intertainer

He had been promoting so many artists including Samangaya & police orchestra, Makasu, love Aquarius, gas machinehead, Army Bravos band, Mbc band and many others.
I was amazed to see him for the first time. " Mufana Urimbikire Uri ndi potancial" He said in his Zimbabwean plus tumbuka accent. I was like wow!!!
Since then he became my companion in the music journey.

He has always been my most reliable support in good times, but most of all in my worst times.

Most people think they know Malawian artists and their plights but They don't know us. Jai knows our poverty...

When we have a show where everyone leaves the venue believing the organiser has made million,
lts jai Banda who comes to the back stage at the end of the show to cry with you because he sees the crowd and knows the expenses and know from experience that you have made loses.
A lot of people celebrate artists when they see them on stage but it's few people lead by Jai banda who care about the behind the scenes of an artist.
Yes we have had our ups and downs but our ups are the best and worth celebrating and sherishing all the time.

This is why my first show on the 3rd of February 2023 will be at Motel paradise to cerebrate jais 64th birthday let's meet there and show jai our love.
