🦢what shall we do, together?

In 2025, we revisit the tradition of the Wayzgoose, inviting and opening a space to think through and enact processional publishing—a space where publishing becomes a practice of care, work, solidarity; a transformation of self, community and ideas. ✨

📚 publishing (as) process

Publishing has always been more than just creating books, articles, or journals. It’s about how we collaborate and create—about the relationships, the care, the solidarity and friendships that emerge around the supposed ‘products’ of activities. What would a processional publishing, that honours, values and supports this, feel like, look like, be like?

Join us in 2025 as we embrace the ritual nature of publishing—evolving, transformative, magic acts that bring people together in drawing one another toward creation, and new openings to speak to and through one another. ✨

🌿traditions of transhistorical cultural labours

What is a Wayzgoose? Historically, it was a day of feasting, community, and creativity for printers, a rare moment to step away from the grind and celebrate their craft. Proto-precarious labourers, solitary amongst cultural producers, seeing one another outside the otherwise more solitary contexts of their work and lives.

In 2025, we revive this tradition, again. Together, we’ll explore what it means to publish with care, community, and transformation in mind. ✨

.cc is an experiment in collective public-making, a slow-media platform exploring the notion of détente. continent. opens and examines, transforms and affects contemporary conditions of creative labour and critical love in philosophy, media, art, science, thought, politics and planetary ecologies. continent. produces events, series, special editions, and experimental and research-driven publications, carefully, purposefully infrequently and somewhat irregularly. At time of writing the group comprises Jamie Allen, Paul Boshears, Mela DávilaFreire, Catarina de Almeida Brito, Niklas Egberts, Alicia Escobio, Mayssa Fattouh, Brendan Howell, Nina Jäger, Rebekka Kiesewetter, Maxime Le Calvé, Isaac Linder, Anna-Luise Lorenz, Maite Muñoz, Abbéy Odunlami, Paula Vélez Bravo and Elvia Wilk, with varying degrees of engagement and through their various interests and perspectives.

Over its more than ten-year continuation, continent. has been… a public-making partner in the Anthropocene Curriculum projects of the Haus der Kulturen der Welt(for example, through the Temporary continent. project along the Mississippi River)... an invited special guests for physical book-hacking sessions for the R3pair Volume special issue derived through The Maintainers conference in New Jersey, U.S.A.… a contributor to public tour projects at documenta14 in Athens. .cc has also initiated reading and discussion communities around topics relating to reproductive labour, motherhood and creative production with friends at L’Automatica, Barcelona… and developed events and collections on how friendship can be a model and misgiving in collectivised cultural production.
cc is supported by the Dorothea Schlegel Artist-in-Residence at the Research Area 4: "Literary Currencies" (March–July 2024) of the project.

Each picnic blanket installed on July 4th, is a topical tapestry, a locus for critical thematics in publishing, value and circulation. Thematics will be addressed by each topical picnic through objects, foods, textures, graphics and texts, arranged and open to participatory intervention by the public in attendance. Picnickers are also able to contribute their own comments, references and excerpts across the topology of the lawn, creating a collective, idiosyncratic and individualized publication/edition.

Each tapis/tapestry is the locus of a critical thematic in publishing and circulation, critical cultural production and creative public-making experiments in globalized, literary and media culture. Amongst points of departure for this topoi of public/domestic individual/collective negotiations is the famed, and much derived from, 1977 documentary film “The Powers of Ten” written and directed by Charles and Ray Eames (a beautifully terrible document of telescopic power and scientific mastery that conspires to publish the whole of human knowledge through the visual contrivance of the ‘zoom’.)

.cc participates in the residency programme of the Temporal Communities cluster of excellence project in convening "Raw Materials: What We Bring to the Table.”

We have explored relationship between meals and publishing, highlighting how these are both social and integrative acts, as well as potentially transformative, critical and no doubt creative acts. At the Literature Colloquium Berlin (.berlin) now develops “Topical Topoi, A Raw Material Picnic” which involves collective encounters, reading and snacking groups, for a very special issue and edition from .cc

The LCB project blurs the lines between raw and cooked, messy and refined, developing aspects of ‘metabolic publishing’, as topology, topics, topoi and tapis. For the Annual Conference Literary Value in July 2024 we ask after conflicts and contradictions, who and what is served in the act of (globalized?) publishing. We do so through a series of topical picnic blankets, installed on the majestic lawn of the historic Literarisches Colloquium Berlin villa on the Großer Wannsee.
