Hip Hop polymath Sophiegrophy drops her long anticipated sophomore EP, pulling together a collection of effervescent afro-fused Drill and R&B, inspired by recent trips to Nigeria and post-isolation club hopping. An artist that has always made a habit of creating music that sounds not quite of the here and now, the tracks that comprise “Oranginality” cherry pick from various musical cues, an immersion in Lagos club culture and innovative Afro fusions.

Amapiano and Drill make a strong feature, alongside unexpected twists on Hip-Hop and R&B melodies, always carrying an underlying affinity with the dance genre Sophiegrophy often experiments with. With an expansive curatorial vision to her music, lending the 5 tracks of Oranginality a seductive swagger, as elements fuse together as a series of unconventional bangers for a post-drop era. These are highlighted on low-key bops “Guidance” and “No-Time” (featuring Nigerian Afro-Pop singer songwriter Balloranking), while Sophie’s roach-stomping delivery grinds gently over the top of EP starter “Shesh” - a track that bounces between party starter and late night snack-run soundtrack.

Sophiegrophy launches 2023 with a twist on the house explorations she’s become easily identified with up until now. Recorded in Lagos (Nigeria) and thrown down over a seductive Amapiano beat, “Rockstar” follows the frontal audio assault of trap tunes “Ways”, and “Crazy Life” and Drill/Grime energy of "Question Mark". Blending intricate elements of kwaito and house, Sophie's bars marry effortlessly with traditional melodic style of the Amapiano sound, and true to form uncover and put on show new angles of lyrical control from the polymath African artist.

Following summer trap tune “Ways” and the full frontal audio assault of “Crazy Life”, "Question Mark" is the third song to drop from Sophiegrophy's forthcoming sophomore EP. Recorded in Lagos (Nigeria) and continuing on a drill/grime influence, Question Mark effortlessly blends raps spoken in Yoruba (ethnic language spoken in West Africa) with the hard-hitting bars we’ve come accustomed to hearing from the multi-genre focused artist.

Question Mark places the Nigerian born hip-hop artist in a narrative of false assumptions where the definition of one's perceived identity is in a constant state of flux, based on misdirection and under attack by fake news and the endless enquiry into an artist's real state of mind. In Sophiegrophy’s own words: "Don’t ask a question when you’ve already assumed the answer. The real answer won’t fit your reality. They want to get to know me so they ask questions, but the answers I give does not fit the narrative so they continue to ask more questions.”
