Back with a new season, but an old guest!

In September 2015 I spoke to Franky Shanahan to hear her freelancing story. I thought it'd be interesting to hear what happened in the intervening 8 years, so caught up again.

She said back then, that she expected her business to evolve around her children as they got older. They did. It did.

But it also had to evolve around something she absolutely never saw coming.

In the Spring of 2016 Franky was admitted to hospital. And life and business would get turned upside down...

“I visualise it as a huge monster telling me that I suck.

So I'll just tell my younger self to be a a bit more confident. Don't doubt your talents and skills - because you are good at what you do and you're constantly getting better and you deserve a seat at the table and you're the only person who is in the way of that seat at the table.

So basically shoot your shot, send that DM and send that pitch. That's the only way you will get opportunities and the worst that can happen is that you'll get 'No', and that's okay.”

Yeah. Screw you Imposter Monster - back under that bed, or desk, you go.

Hey. My name’s Steve Folland. And I’m a freelancer.

Since 2015 I’ve spoken to over 200 freelancers for the Being Freelance podcast - the place where creative freelancers chat about being, well freelance.

Through hearing their stories, their shared experiences and knowledge I’ve become a better freelancer. And so have thousands of other freelancers that listen. But more importantly I’ve realised I’m not alone in what I go through - and neither are you.
