MEDIA BIAS WORSE THAN MAANDAMANO!

It is a shock that Kenyan media is taking an open bias approach on national issues like politics. As a journalist, I am sad and deeply ashamed, this is not the media I knew.

I was having a conversation with a colleague who is also a "retired" journalist like me and he had the same concerns. What is making our fourth estate behave like this?

I will attempt to answer and share a possible fate of our media. First, is the media ownership, it's unfortunate that media houses in Kenya is owned by non media professionals or politicians.

The owners "dectate" the content in their media houses, this has been an ailment since independence but it is now a cancer that will kill the media industry in this country completely.

Secondly, the love for handouts by my colleagues, the "brown envelope journalism" is a practice that has been happening in Africa since time immemorial it has just become bold this time.

And to wrap it up, is about the quality of media training that some journalists have been exposed to. In Kenya, we have properly trained journalists and on the flip side we have some practising without proper media training.

With all this, most Kenyans have just relied on social media for news. The new media in Kenya is vibrant because our mainstream have ceded a lot of grounds. The trend will continue and results will be constraint revenue and sacking of journalists.

A good example is Kenya Kwanza government, they ran their campaign 90% on social media and won against an opponent who enjoyed 100% mainstream media coverage.

The same media still believe they control public opinion, I am here as one of you to wake you up.. Men, we lost it, the respect of media authority is far gone, people watch/read or listen to media and confirm if it's true on social media.

JUST TELL RAILA TO STOP THE MADNESS.

Looking at todays front pages, I feel like crying and laughing at the same point because the media is glorifying obscurity. We had an election one year ago, maandamano has been moving the goal post from election to now cost of living.

The same media is pushing on dialogue between government and opposition, on what grounds?? I ask, they claim the country is divided yet they don't call out the guy who is busy dividing us.

If today Raila is give a deal like a handshake, will the country be united. It is simple, Kenyans can't go to the streets if Raila Odinga does not call and fund one. In summary, we are losing the mainstream media in Kenya.

A SAD MOMENT TO SOME KENYANS!

What is the saddest moment in your life?

It's probably when you lose a loved one, when you are heartbroken or when you lose your hard earned money/property. What if all these happened at the same time? It becomes a disaster.

Imagine, you are used to cause mayhem in the streets in the name of MAANDAMANO and in the process, someone's life is lost, property of humongous value is destroyed and family breadwinners killed.

We pretend to call those participating in the maandamano heroes, yet we know they are not. So far those who have lost their lives have NEVER been RECOGNISED anywhere, we only get the statistics, not even the names.

Sad reality is; cost of living is a global problem now, below is a comparison of three East African countries in terms of food items and essential products. Why is KENYA the only one in demonstration??

MAANDAMANO!

It's been long since I shared my opinion on politics of the day, I would like to say something today about the planned enhanced maandamano by Raila Odinga & team.

First, there is no one who has the monopoly of violence, the Azimio team are only looking at Kenyans who support their course, I wish to remind them that millions are against it and they are silent at the moment.

What I predict going forward is; those against the misguided maandamano will slowly get tired and they will erupt. This will mean, we will have two clashing teams in our streets, the scene will be uglier and I am sad to say this is what Raila wants.

It is now close to one year since we held the 2022 elections, I can confidently say the maandamano has nothing to do with that election or the cost of living they keep talking about.

The maandamano according to me is about the 'hustler vs dynasty' stories. The families who thought they were indispensable can't believe that the country is moving on without them.

They are yet to come into terms with the election loss, the dramatic events that saw the deep state and system lose the election which they planned for 5 years. Hata k**a ni wewe.

Next week's maandamano days will be very interesting, I usually watch Prof Manyora's commentary which are always biased to Azimio saying people will overrun the police sooner than later.

I wish to remind Manyora and those thinking like him that we have not yet seen anything with the maandamanos that has happened. Cheering the public into this mess will only lead to more casualties.

Ask yourself, why are we in this maandamano?? Cost of living was high even before Uhuru left, the debt situation we are in was created by Uhuru, KK administration has just started we don't have anything yet to judge them about.

Raila claims that the country is divided when we are seeing him busy dividing the people. My conclusion is; until Raila learn to respect institutions, he will always lead him people into clash and unwarranted deaths every year we have elections.

Raila and Uhuru lost election squarely to the KK team, Uhuru handed over all instruments of power in a broad daylight. If he knew that Ruto didn't win, he should have refused to hand over.

Any right thinking Kenyan will say, let's give this administration one more year before we judge them. We are not mad people we will vote based on their performance. The country is far bigger that all these individuals.

The President just made a very tactful statement. A few will understand the context. He's softly thrown the ball to the opposition ahead of tomorrow's demo.

As the head of state, he has gone on record to preempt some positions taken by Raila Odinga himself. He has taken a democratic path and stood on the side of the rule of law.

This position is very tricky, and in a sense, he has disarmed the opposition. Whatever the police will do tomorrow is in reaction to the position by the Commander in Chief.

President William Samoei Ruto, in summary, wants Raila to assume his position as the official opposition leader and check the government. He has demonised the demos hence allow police to act firmly.

They will abuse this wise as much as they want, but where is the lie?? 😳SAD

22/02/2023

Mass action called by RAO has nothing to do with the high cost of living. It is a political move to try resuscitate his dwindling popularity and maybe built a momentum for 2027 elections.

In reality, the mass action will only slow economic activities, scare investors and build false hopes. The high cost of living has been caused by many factors including the countrywide draught.

Cost of living and food security can only be achieved by increasing production. Not calling for subsidy while encouraging idling in Kibera and other slums instead of going back to the farms.

Raila should change tact or be ready to face retaliation from his people. He will be shocked when people asks him what he has done since COVID-19, BBI and handshake happened while high cost of living has been with us for 5yrs now.

BBI WAS AND IS STILL A FRAUD.

We were told that BBI was about uniting Kenyans and distributing resources equitably all over the country, Right!! Anything beneficial to us inside BBI can be achieved through legislative route even NOW.

1) Creation of the new constituencies is a distinct function of IEBC, we just need to activate it, they do the boundariesdelimitation and we arrive at what BBI was to achieve!!

2) 35% resources to the counties, youth empowerment, HELB, the tax holiday and Ward development fund are legislative issues, can the parliament work on the bills!! NOW

What WADOSI lost in the ruling is the expansion of the executive, a VEHICLE to form a coalition, creation of a powerful ombudsman who literally was becoming the prefect of the Judiciary while he/she was a presidential appointee.

In a nutshell, BBI was not for RAIYA, all that touched on Wanjiku, can comfortably be achieved without a referendum. BBI was a carrier that was used to confuse 'mwananchi' to pass the document. PERIOD!
