DROUGHT & LAKE LEVEL UPDATES: The newest drought monitor shows conditions improved across Central Texas after beneficial rainfall earlier this week. Lake Travis has increased 5% over the past 24 hours. The LCRA has stopped flood operations at Wirtz and Starcke Dams but mentioned the level of Lake Travis will continue to rise over the next several days.
Scattered showers & storms possible this morning/afternoon as highs peak in the 80s. Drier & hotter conditions return next week!
6:33 AM Radar: Scattered showers have started to develop east of I-35 this morning. Rain chances linger through the morning into the early afternoon. Isolated heavy downpours could lead to minor flooding concerns along and east of the I-35 corridor.
While scattered showers are possible Wednesday, most will trend drier and warmer. Additional rain chances are on the way for the rest of the week/weekend.
FLOOD OPERATIONS: The LCRA opened 1 floodgate at Wirtz Dam at 5 a.m. and 3 floodgates at Starcke Dam around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday. Expect water to flow faster than normal along with higher water levels. This water will eventually move down to Lake Travis!
I hope everyone has been doing well! I took some personal time off and spent it with good friends in California the past few days. ☀️
I’m glad to be back in Austin and I’ll see y’all bright and early on KVUE Daybreak.
Happy Monday, everyone! I’m still out of town, but just wanted to provide a link to stay on top of the forecast for the next several days since the KVUE Weather Team is monitoring a flood threat for Central TX. Forecast details can be found here:

A Flash Flood Warning is in effect for Fayette County until Jul 19 12:15PM.
RAIN TOTALS: Morning showers and storms were widespread this morning and brought anywhere from a few tenths of an inch to over 3 inches of rain to parts of Central TX!
FLOOD ADVISORY: in effect for Travis, Williamson, Bastrop, and Burnet counties until 10:45 AM. About 1-2" of rain has already fallen with an additional 1-2" possible which could create minor flooding. Remember, turn around don't drown!
Storms move through Central TX Thursday morning, but we should be left with a mostly dry, yet hot, afternoon. More rain chances are on the way for next week along with cooler temperatures!
Ominous look from our tower camera this morning as storms move in from the north. Lightning, heavy downpours, and gusty winds possible within some strong storms this morning. Factor in extra time for your work commute as these move south throughout the morning!
5:35 AM Radar: A line of showers and storms is currently moving in from the north. Brief heavy rainfall and gusts up to 30 mph will be possible within some storms. Grab your umbrella as you head out the door to be on the safe side this morning! Full forecast on KVUE Daybreak until 7 AM.
Expect a toasty Tuesday with highs around 101° in Austin. Rain chances are just around the corner along with a “cool down”! 👀☀️
And now back to our regularly-scheduled programming…🧡☀️
