Cheryl Johnson believes that a better life is worth fighting for. She’s the founder of Box Lunch Lifestyle: a common sense practice for a more satisfying life built on better food and better ways to invest your time during your workday lunch break. The framework is simple. A 30-minute workday lunch break becomes 15 minutes to eat better food (that you prepared yourself), and 15 minutes to pursue a “quiet dream.” The virtuous cycle created by this practice fuels itself. Aligned with the work of habit experts like James Clear, Judson Brewer, and B.J. Fogg, Box Lunch Lifestyle is a practical way to get started immediately and make progress a habit.

For many years, her career as a test development research director for Pearson was the perfect intersection of Cheryl’s curiosity and her drive to distill, organize, and simplify complex ideas into something actionable. But after nearly twenty years, her love of learning outgrew this role, and too many days felt like a slog rather than making the world a better place. She left in 2018 to do more things that made her feel alive, and to launch Box Lunch Lifestyle with the goal of helping people believe that richer, more satisfying lives aren’t as distant as they seem.

Box Lunch Lifestyle is rooted in a passion for boxing training. When you get to know Cheryl, you can see why boxing is such a good fit. Her friends describe her as disciplined and not afraid of hard work. Boxing training was at the heart of developing the courage to leave corporate life for something that feels more like “her.” In part to be a good boxer, Cheryl’s done her homework on food and nutrition, and shows no favoritism for any one institution or school of thought. An admirer of Michael Pollan, she agrees that “real food should eventually rot.” When people ask food-related questions, she has answers, but also steers them back to their own common sense, and the important “why we eat” that matters just as much as “what we eat.”

Kate DiLeo is the CEO and Chief Brand Architect of Ennobble. An “Accidental Brand Strategist” who originally intended to pursue a PhD in Anthropology, Kate fell into branding during her first sales job. It was in the pursuit of making quota that Kate realized she was quite good at creating a simple message that got prospects to email and call her back. In fact, she went on to successfully manage a $1 million pipeline by throwing out the sales scripts and unsubscribing her leads from marketing campaigns. Instead, she delivered a simple pitch that invited them to engage in a compelling conversation by sharing what she did, how she could solve their problem, and how she was different from the competition.

This pitch, which Kate calls “The Brand Trifecta”, is rooted in her firm belief that brand is the path of least resistance to revenue, because the ability to clearly articulate these three points gives the prospect all the information they need to opt in and say, “Now that’s interesting. I want to have a conversation.” Throughout her career of working in both agency and corporate settings, she pursued her branding side hustle until she finally turned it into her official hustle in 2019. Kate is honored to have worked with more than 200 brands across 20 sectors over the past decade, and she is passionate about partnering with founder-led organizations who desire to craft an authentic, purpose-driven message that effectively helps them get more prospects to the table, more users who click, and more customers who buy.

Years ago, Jean Ketcham, Founder/CEO of Aging but Dangerous, made the conscious decision to live a life of fun, spirit and style, and she’s never looked back. Jean is a former small business owner, top performing regional sales rep, and talk show host. She’s also a proud parent, an avid skydiver, and a cancer survivor. To put it mildly, Jean is up to any challenge.

After retiring, Jean discovered that 55+ women were not living up to their true potential. Their social circles were shrinking and their lifestyles were becoming less stimulating, less adventurous. That’s when Jean, along with Aging but Dangerous co-founder Suzanne Bates, became committed to making a difference.

Jean began organizing meetings where women could connect and share experiences, insights and strategies to help them enrich their lives. She brought in speakers on a wide variety of subjects to empower women to take control of the aging process; she also produced special events like 55+ fashion shows, skydiving outings, and an infamous “colonoscopy party.”

Before long, Aging but Dangerous was attracting National attention. Jean was asked to appear on talk shows and in major publications like Time Magazine. And now, Aging but Dangerous is entering a new phase. Jean has recently begun establishing local chapters where women can discover what it means to become Aging but Dangerous in lively, fun-filled monthly meetings.

At the tender young age of 4yrs old, Kaari Allen grew up doing all she could do to bring joy to her parents after her younger brother’s sudden passing. The positive reinforcement she received from gold stars on schoolwork snowballed into honing her skiing ability to become the #1 female skier in the country for her age with hopes of someday making an Olympic team. Pushing her body beyond capacity lead to the end of her athletic aspirations. Later in life, a non-ergonomic work station in her classroom set off numerous, serious and permanent injuries to her dominant hand. This heartbreaking end of a 27-year career in special education as a learning specialist, brought Kaari to her new reality and the ‘ah-ha’ moment that she can’t care for others until she focused on her own strengths to regain forward momentum in life. “Where The Hell Did I Park My Life?! Owner’s Manual For Shifting Your Life Forward.” is a book that draws upon her personal and clinical expertise providing practical steps to foster momentum to live the best possible life.

Kaari's spiral bound book is written as a guide with space for answering questions and completing pragmatic ‘shifts’ so the reader can identify and access their strengths, skills and reflect on the glorious opportunity of choice. 03/03/2023

Laura Best started Passion Collective as she made "the leap" in quitting her agency career and starting her own business. She realized that she wanted more, but that her definition of "more" was changing. Yet, this wasn't just a job change, this was a life change. And she had work to do.

Thing is, Laura didn't want to go to another networking event or conference. She didn't have the time, cash or courage to try new hobbies, although she craved more fun. She already had a gym. She was reading the books, repeating the mantras, writing the journal, signing up for the online classes. Something was missing.

That something was other women, and the energy created when women share ideas, encouragement and have each others’ backs. Where women just get each other's barriers because they've been there. Where you learn about cool new stuff women are just DOING, fearlessly and with joy. Laura realized that she didn't know where to find this place. So, she set out to create it.

Since the launch of Passion Collective in 2015, Laura has seen women light up in meeting each other, have the guts to show up with strangers - glow with the excitement of explaining their "thing", listen intently when another is explaining what she's been through to get where she is. Laura has been told of generous offers of emotional support, of business relationships created, and most of all, of a feeling of “belonging.”

Botanical printmaker, Linda Snouffer, has a pact with the prairies, which provide her with inspiration and bales of harvested plants. She creates multifaceted landscapes in which she makes plant images using prints of fresh grasses. Each piece is a different combination of materials and techniques used, giving her work a unique sense of place.

After studying with artists skilled in fiber, paint, and pastel techniques and a two-year mentor program with the Women’s Art Resources of Minnesota (WARM), her work quickly progressed from simple plant print mandalas to multilayered fine art.

Her botanical print compositions can be seen in the Dow Gallery in St. Paul, the forNOW Gallery in Minneapolis, and numerous exhibitions throughout the region. In addition, her work is a part of permanent collections of Hennepin County Medical Center and the Shoreview Public Library.

Nancy Chakrin’s life’s passion and purpose are giving and sharing her artistic and organizational talents to improve people’s lives. In 2017 she was one of AARP Minnesota’s “50 Over 50 Award” recipients honoring inspirational leaders over the age of 50 who are shattering myths about aging and writing their own rules.

A 2012 proposal partnering BreathLogic with Park Nicollet Health Service won Nancy a University of Minnesota Buckman “Leadership in Philanthropy” Fellowship. Recognizing stress as a personal impediment and a global epidemic, she researched statistics of how breath practices/mindfulness empower and heal. Experiencing this herself, she uses breath to lower her blood pressure, curtail panic, and decline dental anesthesia.

Now there is no stopping her utilizing her award-winning graphic design, photography, technology, marketing and PR skills to help share “Breath Literacy” with the world. As a joyful, dynamic extrovert, Nancy’s many talents and her abilities to foster friendships make her the driving, connecting and creative force within BreathLogic’s organization.

With great joy, her photography assignments have included images of polar explorer Ann Bancroft; David Gergen and Van Jones of CNN; Drs. Andrew Weil, Deepak Chopra, Dan Siegel, Jon Kabat-Zinn; and His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama – to name a few. She is a member of Horizon 100: Twin Cities Women of Accomplishment; Minnesota Holistic Nurses Association; Minnesota Holistic Medicine Group; Co-CreateX Catalyst team; Crosstown Camera Club; and the Kindness Movement USA. She is a graduate from the University of Minnesota in Art Education.

Nancy is a published author (purchase her book on Amazon), and her artwork appears in public and private collections nationally and internationally. She lives in Minnetonka, Minnesota.

Dennis Vinar, is a salesman, with his own business for over 40 years, inventor, speaker, and now an author who lives in Northfield, Minnesota with his wife Karen. Dennis enjoys art, music (especially concerts at Orchestra Hall), nature, reading, traveling, bicycling, exercising, photography and golf. Karen Lehmann Vinar, an interior designer and kitchen and bath designer for over 40 years. Karen enjoys art, attending musical and theatrical performances, reading, nature, and gardening. Currently, she has a woman-owned business.

Dennis and Karen are the authors of a book about their love story, titled How did you find me... after all of these years? The story begins in the late 1950's, when a shy, 13-year-old girl and a 15-year-old, outgoing boy fall in love in a small Midwestern town, population 695, their happiness is short-lived when they discover she is pregnant. Forced by their very young ages and family expectations, they placed their child for adoption and separate -- each living their lives apart for 53 years. But a corner of Dennis' heart still belonged to Karen. Despite the many passing years, Dennis never forgets his first love. With persistence and determination, he searches for and finds his lost love, and later, together they find their daughter. Love is not what you say; love is what you feel. Like many adopted people, their daughter, who lived a happy life, had spent a lifetime looking for someone she resembled, and for acceptance and a way to feel whole.

Farm girl-turned-Twin Cities professional, Tricia Nissen, has always appreciated her roots and the value of history. Tricia is a historian turned suburban communications pro whose love for elders kept calling. Finally, she answered. She started her business, Storyography, to help people share their life stories with their families. Known for being easy to talk to and interested in life’s everyday details, Tricia’s earliest friends were her grandparents and their friends, and today her favorite time is still spent sitting across the table from elders, talking about “the old days.”

Along her career path, she learned the arts of interviewing, writing, and archiving. She spent 19 years in public relations, primarily serving Native American communities, whose respect for elders further inspired Tricia’s passion for capturing oral history.
