Invisible Wounds with Maj. Gen. Gregg Martin (R)
Retired Major General Gregg F. Martin is well known for speaking out about his personal experience with mental health and documented his journey in his book, “Bipolar General, A Forever War with Mental Illness”.
During his transition out of active duty military, he encountered numerous issues and a lack of continuity of care that delayed his ability to recover and find his way to mental wellness.
As a military spouse, it’s one of our biggest concerns when we see our servicemembers struggling. How do we help them? Who can we turn to? What do we do when they won’t even talk to us?
This candid conversation on mental health in the military will shed light on why it’s so important to eliminate the stigmas surrounding mental health matters and create a supportive environment for the military community.

What Transitioning EFMP Military Families Need to Know
Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) military families have always had to navigate complex and often frustrating situations to ensure the best care and consideration is given to their family members. The word around the military community is that each duty station seems to have its own system and processes that EFMP families must learn to work within to receive appropriate care and thrive where they are.
Now transition out of active-duty life looms and the questions families are facing may be even more difficult to find answers to. EFMP families need to maintain continuity of care and ensure that services are available where they land after active-duty military life. It’s an additional difficult consideration that can overshadow the other types of questions we ask ourselves like, “Where should we live?” and “What kind of employment should I be looking for?”
MilSpouse Transition welcomes #MonthoftheMilitaryChild with this conversation for transitioning military families who are part of the EFMP program. Join expert Austin Carrigg, CEO of Exceptional Families of the Military to hear her story and get answers to the things that transitioning EFMP military families need to know.

Is TAP (Transition Assistance Program) for Military Spouses with Tyrone Hewitt
“TAP” — The Department of Defense’s Transition Assistance Program “bolsters opportunities, services, and training for transitioning Service members in their preparation to meet post-military goals.” That is according to their website.
It’s mandatory transition programming for those who have been in active-duty service for more than 180 days including National Guard and Reservists. It’s the key DOD program for effective transition strategies.
Now your family is transitioning out of active-duty military life. Is TAP also for the military spouse?
Call this your TAP 101 primer. We hear a lot about TAP and the stories that go along with it. Find out for yourself if TAP is for you.
Join me and expert guest, Tyrone Hewitt to discuss what TAP is, the curriculum it covers, what a servicemember should get out of it and the military spouse’s opportunities to be involved in the TAP experience.
