My second official album was released 20 YEARS AGO!! I had taken the advice of an industry person at the time and made half of the songs cover songs. My songs on this album aren’t great but the covers got a lot of mileage! My Michael Nesmith cover version of Grand Ennui got some airplay statewide and the other Nesmith cover, Propinquity (I’ve Just Begun To Care) was always a favorite of my band. Back in the early days of YouTube my version of Ennui even got a “like” from Nesmith himself! My Jimmy C. Newman cover, Alligator Man, also got played for the original artist to hear and I got invited to fish with him and Tom Perryman at Rainbow Lake in Athens! This album even features my version of a Conway Twitty song, I Am The Dreamer. It turned out to be my favorite cut on this album. I also got to record Amazing Grace with my mama (Sandy Hale Mauldin) And it features an intro by my grandmother and my uncle (Jerry D Hale) singing it together in the 80’s! Of my own compositions on this one, there’s the original version Little Brother about Ryan and featuring a toddler Jacob with an intro. Rodeo In The Sky was one of the first songs I wrote as a kid and My Life was written in my angsty teenage years. I listened to a lot of it today with Maggie as we rode around. It’s strange to thank that I released this when Jacob was 4 years old and I’m listening to it 20 years later with my 4 year old little girl!! Oh well, here’s to 20 years of this music being around!
