This is a very cool progressive rock album I worked on way back. I recorded the guitar sounds for this album at Renaissance Recording Company. We used two Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier Amps . One amp was set with a chunky sound and the other was set with a buzzy sound. Most of the guitars were doubled of course.

“You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away”
Written by: John Lennon/Paul McCartney

“Everyone experiences loss… Loss is a universal human experience where the absence of something or someone significant causes an emotional or material vacancy. Each person copes uniquely; for me, music has always been the great healer.”

Johnny A., renowned for his masterful guitar work and passionate interpretations, embarks on a heartfelt tribute to two passed legends who shaped his musical journey: John Lennon and Jeff Beck.

In a bold departure from his signature blues-rock roots, Johnny A. ventures into uncharted territory with a daring rendition of The Beatles' timeless hit "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away," meticulously crafted and stylistically reminiscent of Jeff Beck.

Johnny A.'s adaptation unfolds with an electrifying introduction, where hypnotic percussion and delicate synth pads give way to a cascade of ethereal echoes, reflecting Beck's penchant for atmospheric introspection. The arrangement subtly builds, layering intricate melodies over a pulsating rhythm section, each note resonating with a nuanced intensity that pays homage to Beck's virtuosic finesse. Channeling John Lennon's poignant lyricism and Jeff Beck's innovative guitar techniques, Johnny A. navigates through the song with a reverence that honors the original while adding his own distinct flavor.

As the song progresses, Johnny A.'s guitar work takes center stage, conveying his signature blend of soulful phrasing and technical dexterity. With every bend, slide and flurry, he weaves a narrative that is both respectful and innovative, infusing the classic tune with a newfound depth and emotional resonance.

A key modulation climax arrives at the solo with a crescendo of cascading harmonics and cascading fretwork, a testament to Johnny A.'s ability to reinvent familiar melodies while staying true to the essence of the improvisational spirit. The track concludes with a hauntingly beautiful coda, where images of Johnny A.'s distinctive style linger, leaving an indelible impression on listeners.

In this homage, Johnny A. showcases his own prowess as a versatile musician capable of transcending genres and creating music that is both timeless and transformative.

Through painstaking production and an impassioned performance, Johnny A. pays tribute not only to the song itself but to the profound impact Lennon and Beck have had on his own artistic evolution. It's a recording that not only celebrates the past but also showcases Johnny A.'s journey as an artist who continues to push boundaries and explore the rich tapestry of rock 'n' roll history.

This is me way back when I was getting into it all. At Studio 440, which was Mark Martin's hidden studio in the Alley on Newbury Street. I am working with Michael Troy and David Stefanelli on The Beloved Few album, recording so many overdubs! This was one of the funnest albums to work on. Amazing talent on this album: Robert Holmes (Till Tuesday), Anthony Resta (Moog Synth / Percussion), Bob St John (mixing), Chris Lannon (Drum Tracking), Patty Barkas (vocals), Doug Dube (B3), Tim Archibald (Bass), and the list goes on.
