🫖Featured Tea: Earl Grey

Earl Grey tea is a popular and distinctive black tea that is flavored with oil extracted from the rind of bergamot oranges, a citrus fruit primarily grown in southern Italy.

👉Here are some key points about Earl Grey tea:
1. Flavor Profile: Earl Grey tea is characterized by its bold and brisk flavor, typical of black teas, with a subtle citrusy and floral aroma from the bergamot oil. The bergamot oil adds a unique and refreshing twist to the tea, creating a harmonious balance between the robustness of the black tea and the fragrant citrus notes.
2. Origin: The exact origins of Earl Grey tea are somewhat uncertain, but it is commonly believed to have been named after Charles Grey, the 2nd Earl Grey and British Prime Minister in the early 19th century. Legend has it that Earl Grey was gifted a blend of tea flavored with bergamot oil as a diplomatic gesture, though historical evidence for this story is limited.
3. Ingredients: The main ingredients in Earl Grey tea are black tea leaves and bergamot oil. Traditionally, high-quality loose-leaf black tea is used, though Earl Grey blends can also incorporate other ingredients such as cornflower petals or citrus peel for added visual appeal and flavor complexity.
4. Serving: Earl Grey tea can be enjoyed hot or cold and is commonly served without milk, although some people may prefer to add a splash of milk or a slice of lemon to enhance the flavor. It’s a versatile tea that can be enjoyed throughout the day, whether as a morning pick-me-up or a soothing afternoon beverage.
5. SerendipiTea’s Earl Grey is made with single estate black tea from Thiashola, one of the oldest tea gardens in the famed Blue Mountains of Nilgiri, located in S. India. is grown at 6,500 ft. above sea level.

Did you know? 🍵🍃
Just like fine wine or aged cheese, some teas can be aged to perfection. Pu-erh tea from Yunnan Province, China, is a prime example, becoming richer and more complex over time. This unique tea is often stored for years, with some rare varieties aged for decades! The aging process allows the tea to develop deep, earthy flavors and smooth, mellow notes.

In addition to pu-erh, white teas like Shou Mei and certain oolong teas can also be aged, resulting in enhanced flavors and aromas. Aged white teas are known for their honey-like sweetness and rich, full-bodied taste, while aged oolongs develop a fruity, floral complexity.

Next time you sip a cup of tea, remember there’s more to explore beyond fresh brews. 🫖✨
