A Brief History of Mad Dog Ranch Studios
Located on 6 acres, in the woods, this peaceful property once belonged to Jimmy Buffett and was subsequently sold to the late Glenn Frey of the Eagles. Glenn converted what once was Jimmy's Office and Garage into a rather lovely recording facility. The Design work was done by Frank Comentale, a 35-year veteran in the New York City recording Industry (the man who built The Hit Factory)! The property changed hands just months before Glenn's passing and is now available for Commercial Recording. The reoccupation of the facility began in mid July of 2016 and features our Iz RADAR 24 track hard disk system (16 or 24 bit / 44.1 - 192K), Harrison Mixbus DAW and Pro Tools HD.
STAFF: Our house engineer is Mr. P. With a 40-year tenure in the Live Music Arena as both resident House and Touring Engineer (Mr. P designed and installed the original sound system in Aspen’s premiere live music venue as well as a number of facilities in the Roaring Fork Valley).
He has also held positions as staff engineer and technician at select facilities in San Diego, CA. His most recent studio placement was with the Instruction and Research Facility at the Music Department at UCSD as Senior Electronic Technician/Second Recording Engineer.
Over the years his projects ranged from Voice Over’s to Scoring (Old Globe Theatre, San Diego) to Band/Solo Artist (album) recordings to Sampling Sessions for Gulbransen Piano Company in San Diego as well as National Commercials (TV and Radio). Mr. P’s Studio Work has, on occasion, been nominated for Cleo awards.
