A book has a cover and pages made of leaves, but they are more than that; they can define people. They often say, you can definitely judge a person based from the books they read. But as one age as a reader, it will become clear that it is the book that chooses the reader. Not the other way around. đź“š

Call for Entries, extended.

The walk of life is our progress, yet as we move to encounter something new, boxes and blocks that carved their essence within us will sooner or later be left behind. It may feel like a void in our vibrance to cut their chains with us but to move forward means to leave them—that, to continue living is leaving something.

In a world where everything is temporary, we all carry concealed jars of leaving aches, but behind the searing poignancy of goodbyes is the art of living and leaving. The call for entries of our Literary Folio is extended, open until May 30, 2023

Upload your entries of goodbyes here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/13e3AM8mrKVeDxFP0L6q4Y-Di8tQpra2O?fbclid=IwAR080HCsNUmgfH6EekDgBXNVrw7B-2KOEDQYycxLWA6pBo4Ox_HHl_MQEvE, with the file name “TITLE - [PROSE / POETRY / ART / PHOTO]”.

04/04/2023

Old pictures that had been glued to the wall for ages had finally been removed; those pilled-up magazines and books had been arranged on big brown boxes; the scattered paper and broken things were thrown away in the recycling bin—everything that had started the fire had been put out; the burning passion had settled down like the sea; but a tiny little wave, waving hello, could make a tsunami so huge. Stories will end and goodbyes will never be untold. The war has ended and now, it is time to hug them tight. Leaving something behind is not always gray, consonant to goodbyes behind its pricking thorns to say. To the people who had fought with us since day one of our fights. To every entity that nurtured the seed that had grown into a beautiful bud where everyone was free to speak.

We continue here.

——

We are opening submissions for curious and talented writers and artists. For a chance to be published in our second volume, submit any piece of literary work (can be written in English, Filipino, or Ilocano). For this special moment, we are collecting works revolving on the theme “Good-byes”.

Love Lost in Letters

Preserving affection is not always the manifestation of self-shackling toward the endless pit of “I shouldn’t have”. Sometimes, it is protecting what you already have over what you feel, or it is a star you couldn’t grasp, and embrace that its beauty is for your eyes only. The path of confession always ends up divided into two: the surprise route of risk and the safe’s dead end what ifs.

Today, the letters as leaves have been carried by the winds of post-valentine breeze. Admirers with distinct sentiments open in secrecy, of how different forms of love have sprouted and grown, stimulating their entity. As the month of love comes to an end, a sprinkle of pink and red on the air smear the tint of the present to once again invigorate the real Feb feels as we unseal what they feel.

UNP-LS Seizes Heart’s Day Celebration

Color-coded attires. Fancy decorations. Sweet smiles.

All were highlighted in the school for the Valentine’s Day celebration.

The University of Northern Philippines - Laboratory Schools conducted classroom-based programs for each of the grade levels during Heart's Day, February 14.

The programs served as opportunities for physical interactions among the classes to get to know each other better and create unforgettable memories. Showcasing the talents of the students through their intermission numbers was also included in the activity.

Dr. Aurelia T. Vitamog, the Principal of the UNP-LS, expressed her gratitude for the students as they participated in the different celebratory activities to enhance their socialization and return to tradition.

"That is the crowd that we’ve been looking for after the [restrictions of] pandemic. We hit the best spot [that] we gave the kids a program to celebrate Valentine’s Day, a way to break the stigma," Kimberly Anne Rin, the Vice Governor of the Laboratory Schools Organization, posited as the usual programs have returned.

The face-to-face celebration was held for the first time after an almost three-year hiatus due to the pandemic.

A ribbon cutting spearheaded by the UNP president, Dr. Erwin Cadorna, along with the head of Library and Information Services and staff, marked the official opening of the new area where students, faculty, and external clients are open to access its encoding, searching, and printing services.

Love Lost in Letters

Some would say love finds us with an unforeseeable strike while others grasp upon the idea that love is a seed planted to germinate as we carve its fate in our lives. Amidst love’s ineffable spectrum, we still arrive at a conventional notion that love is felt. It could be for your family, and friends, and not limited to lovers, platonic or romantic. To love and feel love is a dove soaring vastness above, yet its reckoned freedom of revelation, in fact, comes with restriction.

You got something to say, but the atoms congested in your throat seem to remain at a standstill; all the hair of your living body appears to be needles prickling your skin; and the butterflies tickle your stomach, hinting at your nervousness. Perhaps you’re holding a love you don’t tell anyone due to the fear of rejection, judgment, or even the loss of sacredness, but you know that your love for them deserves to emanate and be known by the world.

To celebrate this month of love, let The Bud be your confidante as you confess your love to anyone or anything, as you, the sender, remain a secret admirer.
