So what if it was based on Greek mythology? Not all mythology is inspirational or aspirational, certainly not the Greek God of Promiscuity and Overindulgence.
Further, drag is a fringe performance art, that with the rare exception, has always bordered on the kitschy and crass. A little goes a long way. Which is why it is well suited for small clubs that cater specifically to its fans -- gay and straight. It is not for mainstream consumption. Not everyone get's it, and they shouldn't have to.
Someone, when they were planning this, surely must have suggested it would p**s off half the world. And someone else said the equivalent, of "Who cares? Let them each cake."
Now they have cake on their faces. Which is where it should be.
