Tales of mermaids have been with us as long as humans have been taking to the sea, but tales of merMEN were always more rare. The summer of 1814 would see a rash of mer-being sightings off the west coast of Scotland. While no explanation has ever been found it is important to remember the oceans are vast and their secrets are many. There is no telling what wonders and/or horrors yet await discovery there!

76 YEARS AGO TODAY!
We leave behind the skies of Illinois and move to the waterways of Indiana, where a monster is said to lurk! While the Beast of Busco was first reported in 1898 by a local farmer, Oscar Fulk, it wouldn't reach national news for another 50 years. The sighting by Ora Blue in 1948, and then again by Gale Harris in 1949, would kick off monster fever. Soon hordes of curious sightseers and wanna be monster hunters were descending on the tiny town and lake. SO many in fact that state police had to be called in to direct traffic! While Oscar (named after the original witness) was never captured his memory lives on in Churubusco where a stone statue of a turtle stands in the middle of town and the Turtle Days festival is held each June.

36 years ago today! The story of the Bishopville Lizard Man (a.k.a. The Scape Ore Swamp Lizard Man) would go on to be covered by "People" magazine, "Good Morning America", CNN, and even legendary news anchors Dan Rather and Tom Brokaw. Rumors still persist that even "The Oprah Winfrey Show" reached out to Christopher Davis after news of his encounter spread. He reportedly even went on to pass several polygraph tests (lie detector tests).

Sadly, Christopher Davis' life would end tragically in 2009 when he was murdered in his home. He was 37.
