Who said MPVs have to be boring?
Meet the XL6. Suzuki’s stylish new people mover.
Joining Suzuki’s lineup just above the renowned Ertiga, the XL6 brings a fresh, compact SUV-like design that appeals to growing families and small shuttle services alike.
It comes loaded with standard features and stylish accents, the XL6 stands out with LED lights, diamond-cut alloy wheels, keyless entry, wireless Apple CarPlay, and more.
Built on the Ertiga’s platform, the XL6 offers a more accessible and maneuverable rear passenger space with its 6-seat configuration, featuring captain seats in the second row.
Inside, the cabin offers comfort and quality, with ample legroom and headroom in the second row, though taller passengers may find the third-row legroom a bit tight. Each rear passenger enjoys a 3-point seatbelt and cup holders on each side.
Powering the XL6 is the proven 1.5L naturally aspirated engine, delivering 77kW and 138Nm to the front wheels via either a 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual transmission.
While the power figures may not be the most impressive, the XL6 handles well with light loads, though its performance with a full complement of passengers remains to be tested.
During our tests, we achieved a fuel consumption of 7.5L/100km, slightly above the claimed 6L. Achieving this figure may prove challenging with the 4-speed automatic transmission, but should be feasible with the 5-speed manual.
Despite its strengths in styling and features, the XL6 falls short in safety due to the absence of rear airbags. Additional USB ports in the rear would also be a welcome addition.
On the road, the XL6 is easy to drive, thanks to its well-calibrated suspension that effortlessly absorbs road imperfections. It’s also practical, offering 209L of boot space and underfloor storage bins.
Pricing for the XL6 starts at R344,900, topping out at R379,900 for the top GLX Auto derivatives
