We feel it’s important to share where things currently stand regarding our venue certification and the challenges we’ve been facing.
Before May 2025, our track underwent the scheduled two-year inspection by Speedway Australia. Their report listed nine concerns, the majority being straightforward to address. The most significant task involved replacing approximately 80 metres of concrete wall, which had an inward lean of about 11 degrees. As a result, our venue was downgraded from a 3-star to a 1-star facility.
We accepted these findings and began work immediately. With the season approaching, we launched fundraising efforts and completed the repairs required. A follow-up inspection granted us a 2-star rating, with the only remaining concern being the wall height. During resurfacing works, the track level had changed and the wall height was temporarily reduced to under 1 metre.
This was also rectified. We adjusted the levels, provided photographs every 5 metres as requested, and on November 29th, 2025, our 3-star rating was formally reinstated.
Following this, we invested heavily in promoting our upcoming December 13th event.
However, 11 days later, we received notice that our venue had again been reduced to 1-star status. No further inspection had been carried out, and nothing at the venue had changed during that period. We now find ourselves back where we started, after spending close to $100,000 addressing the issues that were originally identified.
As a direct result of this downgrade, we are unable to apply for the appropriate insurance permit required for our December 13th event. This is not a decision we have chosen, but a circumstance we are currently forced into due to the sudden reclassification.
This has left us with several unanswered questions:
• How can a venue be downgraded without a new inspection or any change to its condition?
• How can so much time, money, and effort be invested, only to have the situation return to square one?
We don’t have an explanation, and this timing understandably leaves us discouraged — especially so close to our sprintcar event.
What we do know is that we have followed every instruction that has been given to us. We care deeply about this sport and about our small country track. We want to see speedway thrive, not be held back by uncertainty.
As for whether December 13th will go ahead — that decision now rests with Speedway Australia.
We are disappointed, frustrated, and still seeking clarity, but we remain committed to doing everything within our power for our sport and our community.
