Disqualification of Gov. Rosal in favor of illegal quarrying in Albay

SHOCKING and astonishing the disqualification of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Second Division to Albay Governor Noel Rosal.
Why? Oh, it seems that the very high number of votes that Albay Governor Noel got which is 469,481 last election was set aside. This is almost double the number of votes his counterpart ex-governor Al Francis Bichara got and left no room for victory to be doubted.
Vote buying or vote buying is a common story when both candidates are in close competition. But in Rosal's case, it's obvious that the overwhelming vote he got is evidence of the overflowing support of the people in Albay. Same!
Clearly Rosal doesn't need to buy votes and money can't buy that big win in Albay.
But, why did the people support Rosal just like that?
When the news came out that he was “disqualified” by a division of Comelec, one can imagine that the citizens who voted for him will just be shocked if their support is not genuine. But more than 25,000 people welcomed Bishop Joel "B**g" Baylon's calling of the Diocese of Legazpi City "PRAYER FOR ROSAL".
Let's remember that Bishop Baylon is the one who called for the investigation of the quarry in the Mayon Volcano that he blamed for the water leak that destroyed 300 houses there. A repeat of the tragedy in 2006 where 1,400 people died in the lahar flow.
Many got rich by quarrying in Mayon Volcano, but what got in return is human lives. Only Governor Rosal stood up and ran to fight the deadly quarrying in his province.
That's why when Rosal was elected Governor, 'STOP QUARRYING' became her first command. So unavoidable to think that maybe the one who lost delicacy in quarrying supported his disquaification. Same!
The COMELEC's decision can't be bought into protests and disqualification, but it's also not incredibly right to remove the governor-elect of Albay and let the deadly quarrying in Mayon resume.

PAG DISQUALIFY NG SA COUPLE KINONDENA



LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines — Isang malaking prayer rally ang inilunsad ng Simbahang Katolika sa Albay nitong Sabado bilang pagsuporta kina Governor Noel Rosal at misis nitong si Legazpi City Mayor Ge­raldine Rosal kasunod ng ibinabang disqualification ng Commission on Elections’ First at Second Division laban sa mag-asawa.

Nanguna sa peaceful rally na tinawag na “Dasal para kay Rosal” si Bishop Joel Baylon ng Diocese of Legazpi (Albay) sa harap ng Albay Capitol Building at kinondena ang disqualificiation ng Comelec sa mga Rosal na aniya’y labag sa kagustuhan ng mga tao na bumoto sa kanila nitong nagdaang May 9 elections.

“We all know that the people of Albay had voted for them because they believe in their leadership. And the accusation that they extended help to the poor during the election ban that caused their disqualification would deny them of their mandate as the duly elected leaders of the people,” pahayag ni Baylon.

Sinabi ni Baylon sa harap ng mga dumalo sa rally na siya at mga kapwa pari sa kanilang diocese ay tahasang sumusuporta sa mga Rosal hanggang sa makuha ang hustisya para sa 469,481 Pilipino na bumoto kay Gov. Rosal at asawang alkalde.

Ayon sa 70-anyos na g**o na si Rose Ajero na kabilang sa 25,000 dumalo sa rally, mahal nila ang gobernador dahil sa mahusay nitong environment advocacy upang malimita ang quarrying activities sa Albay upang mapigilan ang trahedya na nangyari noong 2006.

“Ayaw na ng mga mamamayan ng Albay na maulit ang matinding kalamidad noong 2006 matapos ang pagtama ng bagyong Reming sa bayan ng Padang kung saan marami ang nasalanta dahil na rin sa illegal quarrying,” giit ni Ajero.

“We are praying for divine intervention from God to reverse that ruling. We cannot allow to lose the people’s governor who really serves us,” pahayag naman ni Tabaco City Councilor Oden Berces ng Unang Distrito.

Base sa report, sina Gov. Rosal at Mayor Rosal ay diniskuwalipika ng Comelec dahil sa umano’y pamamahagi cash assistance sa kabila na may umiiral na election ban ng panahong ‘yon.
Naghain na ang mag-asawang Rosal ng “motion for reconsideration” sa Comelec en banc.
