Police on the trail of singer Seun Kuti, visit his home but met his absence

Men of the Lagos state police command are currently on the trail of singer Seun Kuti. Some officers from the command visited his Allen Avenue home this morning to arrest him but met his absence. The officers were stationed at his Allen Avenue home but were later asked to leave the area.

Recall that the Inspector General of Police, Baba Alkali, ordered for Seun's arrest after a video of him assaulting a police officer surfaced online. The singer was seen pushing and also slapping a police officer on the Third mainland bridge. Seun shared a post on his IG page last night where he stated that the officer tried to kill him.

Meanwhile, the officer he assaulted has reported to the command headquarters and has given his statement of what transpired between him and the singer.

Former Nollywood actor, Saint Obi dies after a prolonged illness.

The iconic actor, 57, reportedly passed away on Monday May 7, following months of visiting the hospital for treatment of an undisclosed ailment.

He was said to be staying in his sister's home in Jos when he died.

A 20-year-old man, Halifa Hamza, has st@bbed his elder brother, Usman Hamza, to d€ath with a pair of scissors in Kurna community in Dala Local Government Area of Kano State.

It was gathered that the incident happened on Sunday, April 2, 2023, after an argument erupted between the brothers.

In an interview with Freedom Radio, their father, Alhaji Hamza, said it was not true that they fought because of a cat, but that it was as a result of the younger brother wearing the shirt and trousers of his elder brother.

“The elder brother that was killed (Usman) collected my motorcycle to go and inform his friends that we had organised Iftar for people so that they could come and eat,” Alhaji Hamza explained.
"When he came back, he saw his younger brother with his shirt and trousers. He then asked why he did that, and from there a fight started. The younger one entered the house and brought a pair of scissors and st@bbed the older brother on his chest and he d!ed there.”

Halifa’s friend, who pleaded anonymity, said immediately the incident happened, he left the house and ran away.
Spokesman of the state police command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who confirmed the incident to Daily Trust on Wednesday, said investigation was ongoing.

Shakira was seen looking tearful at the airport as she bid farewell to her friends and family before leaving Barcelona for good, following her split from Gerard Pique.

The Colombian singer, 46, is moving to Miami after reportedly being served an “eviction notice” by her ex Gerard Pique's dad, Joan Pique.

According to the Spanish press, the singer received an email from Pique's dad on March 13, asking her to vacate the former couple's home by April 30 or pay compensation.

The house, where Shakira famously installed a witch on the balcony in an apparent jibe at Pique’s mum who lives next-door, is said to have been owned by the former couple before Joan Pique became the sole shareholder, following his son's split with the singer.

Pique, 35, is now dating 24-year-old Clara Chia Marti.

Looking tearful in the airport dressed in double-denim, Shakira hugged her friends and family before making her way onto her private jet.

The “Hips Don't Lie” singer was accompanied by her two sons Milan, 10, and Sasha, 8, who are rumoured to be starting school in America on April 11.

On Sunday, April 2, Shakira took to Twitter to announce her departure, saying: "I settled in Barcelona to give my children stability, the same that we are now looking for in another corner of the world next to family, friends and the sea.

"Today we start a new chapter in the search for our happiness.

“Thanks to everyone there who encouraged me, dried my tears, inspired me and made me grow.

“Thanks to my Spanish fans who have always protected me with their love and loyalty.”

She added as she shared a photo of a wing of the plane as she left the Catalan capital: “But things are not always how we dreamed them.

“At times we run but we don’t arrive.

“Never doubt that I’m going to be here.”

Senator Ike Ekweremadu, his wife, Beatrice, and their doctor, Obinna Obeta will be sentenced on May 5 after they were convicted of organ trafficking, in the first verdict of its kind under the Modern Slavery Act in the United Kingdom.

The former deputy senate president, his wife, Beatrice, 56, and Dr. Obinna Obeta, 51, were found guilty of facilitating the travel of a young man to Britain with a view to his exploitation after a six-week trial at the Old Bailey.

They conspired to bring the 21-year-old Lagos street trader to London to exploit him for his kidney, the jury found.

The man had been offered a reward to become a donor for the senator’s daughter after kidney disease forced her to drop out of a master’s degree in film at Newcastle University, the court heard.

Back in February 2022, the young man was falsely presented to a private renal unit at Royal Free hospital in London as Sonia’s cousin in a failed attempt to persuade medics to carry out an £80,000 transplant. For a fee, a medical secretary at the hospital acted as an Igbo translator between the man and the doctors to help try to convince them he was an altruistic donor, the court heard.

The prosecutor Hugh Davies KC told the court the Ekweremadus and Obeta had treated the man and other potential donors as “disposable assets – spare parts for reward”. He said they entered an “emotionally cold commercial transaction” with the man.

The behaviour of Ekweremadu, a successful lawyer and founder of an anti-poverty charity who helped draw up Nigeria’s laws against organ trafficking, showed “entitlement, dishonesty and hypocrisy”, Davies told the jury.

He said Ekweremadu, who owns several properties and had a staff of 80, “agreed to reward someone for a kidney for his daughter – somebody in circumstances of poverty and from whom he distanced himself and made no inquiries, and with whom, for his own political protection, he wanted no direct contact”.

Davies added: “What he agreed to do was not simply expedient in the clinical interests of his daughter, Sonia, it was exploitation, it was criminal. It is no defence to say he acted out of love for his daughter. Her clinical needs cannot

Breaking: World Athletics has banned trans women from international competition, Sebastian Coe has confirmed.

The governing body has opted to exclude male-to-female transgender athletes and those with differences in s*x development (DSD) from female competition if they have gone through male puberty.

The decision comes after World Athletics consulted with member federations in January about a change to rules, insisting they would “follow the science... in order to protect the female category, maintain fairness in our competitions, and remain as inclusive as possible.”
