What’s the weirdest call Colin Prescott ever got?
Being asked to drop the Queen and James Bond into the London Olympics opening ceremony.
Same man. Same life.
Also flew a hot air balloon from Alderney to England, just because it hadn’t been done before.
Some careers don’t have a lane. They just keep getting stranger.

Colin set out to fly around the world in a balloon. Non-stop.
Not a hop across Europe. Not a PR lap. The full thing.

Days in the air, riding weather systems like motorways in the sky.
This is Colin Prescott on the moment he had to ditch into the Pacific and choose survival over the record.

Some adventures don’t end with a finish line. They end with a decision.

It started with hot air balloons.
Then cameras.
Then somehow… James Bond.

A chance answering-machine job turned into a 45-year film career.
Superman II. Harry Potter. Mission Impossible. Bond after Bond after Bond.

Yes, even the helicopter with chainsaws. They actually filmed it.
Film history is often just people saying yes at the right moment.

Colin Prescott didn’t just work on films.
He helped teach cameras how to fly.
Founder of Flying Pictures, one of the world’s first serious aerial cinematography companies. His filmography is frankly ridiculous.
Superman II.
12 James Bond films.
Mission: Impossible.
Harry Potter.
Ridley Scott movies.
All shot from angles no one else could reach at the time.
Before drones. Before it was normal. Before it was easy.
Proper film history hiding in plain sight.

Here's a man who has lived many lifetimes...

Colin Prescott is a ballooning pioneer, record-breaker and film stunt coordinator. He’s flown around the world for 18 days straight, ditched into the Pacific Ocean, hung under helicopters for James Bond films and trained as a cosmonaut to reach the edge of space. Casually.

He also has a deep connection to Alderney, from historic hot air balloon flights to stories that feel slightly unbelievable until you remember who you’re listening to.

We talk about near-death moments, filming some of the most dangerous stunts ever put on screen, introducing Richard Branson to ballooning and why staying calm matters when everything is going wrong.

It’s funny, surreal and quietly inspiring. Colin tells it all like he’s ordering a cup of tea.

Alderney very nearly became crypto-famous before crypto was even a thing.

Back in 2012 the island tried to mint a Bitcoin commemorative coin. Front page of the FT, everyone buzzing… then the UK Chancellor swooped in and shut it down. Imagine snagging one of those coins. You’d be sitting on a small fortune instead of a what-might-have-been.

A perfect little Alderney tale of big ideas and awkward timing.

Alderney used to be absolute chaos in the best way.

Before the bunkers and the barbed wire there were smugglers slipping through the fog, whispers about witches on the cliffs and the odd rumour that locals might have lured ships a little too close for comfort. All the fun stuff no one tells you on the tourist boards.

Tiny island. Huge folklore energy.

Life on a small island comes with drama.

Robert McDowall has faced his share of conflict and long-held grudges.

But his thick skin and stubborn positivity tend to irritate his critics even more.

Alderney residents pay taxes to Guernsey, yet it’s often unclear how much the island receives in return.

Despite having our own government and laws, transparency around public finances remains a live question.

Former States Member Robert McDowall explored this issue years ago and it still hasn’t been fully answered.

Is Alderney a burden, or an asset?

One £1,200 Alderney coin would be worth over $3.9 million today.

Back in 2012, Alderney had a chance to mint a commemorative Bitcoin coin. The idea was proposed by then States Member Robert McDowall.

Gold. Retail price £1,200. Inside it, $600 of Bitcoin.
That $600 would now be worth $3.9 million.

Through a lack of understanding, the opportunity quietly faded.

Just imagine what that kind of value could have unlocked for the island.
A marina. A cinema. A new airport. Even a swimming pool.

This isn’t about regret.

It’s about what happens when innovation arrives before confidence does.
