How many times do you send a message to your loved ones working in another country? Just like the old days, receiving a letter makes you feel loved and appreciated. What more if you are a continent away from your family, friends, or lover? Every cent of thought they have given for you is the prize of your sacrifices for them.

Working abroad is a tough job. You can provide your family with a good life, but you’re not beside them to live the same quality of life. Even continents apart, OFWs deserve everything you can offer in return. Even in the smallest act. It’s important to let them still be included in our life. With the presence of the internet and social media, you can reach them anytime and anywhere.
They bring abundance not only to their family, but also to the country. Being called the modern-day hero is a well-deserved title. The work they have done is unmatched. In a country apart from their family, they still feel comfort by just thinking about the reasons for their hard work.

In this month of love, everyone deserves to love and be loved. With , everyone can send a message to their loved ones abroad. It doesn’t matter if it’s long or short. Amidst the hustle of new cities and the unfamiliarity of foreign lands, there's a chapter in the lives of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) that often goes untold – the beautiful tale of love discovered far from home. 🇵🇭💖

From the buzzing streets of Manila to the bustling avenues of distant cities, our OFWs embark on a journey not just for career growth but also for the unexpected blossoming of romance. There is no shortage of representation of OFWs in Filipino films and media. Most, if not all, of these depictions unveil the suffering and pain OFWs endure behind the prosperity of the family they left behind in the country.

Forced into underemployment to survive, OFWs have to swallow their pride and take on any job just to live by on foreign soil and still provide for their family back home. In one of the movies presented, “Hello, Love, Goodbye”, the main character—Joy—graduated from nursing and dreams of being one eventually. Her responsibilities as the eldest daughter of her family render Joy trapped in her job as a nanny, underpaid and overworked.

In the other movie, “Barcelona: A Love Untold”, where Kathryn Bernardo also plays an OFW, her friend similarly laments the pain of being treated like a ‘servant’ when he himself graduated in Accounting.

OFWs 𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘶𝘳𝘦 a lot in exchange for giving the families they’re supporting a comfortable life back in the Philippines. In a foreign land, where the language spoken is not their own and the people they encounter are unfamiliar, OFWs have to deal with a lot of adjustment even on the very first time they step into another country.

It’s no wonder that OFWs are often compared to superheroes with how much 𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 they possess to be able to grit their teeth through the pain for the family they left behind to support.

The title 'Bagong Bayani' for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) goes beyond a mere label—it encapsulates their courage, strength, resilience, and selflessness. Much like heroes, OFWs make significant contributions to the nation's development through their collective sacrificial acts.

The growth in the number of OFWs over the years is undeniable. In the first quarter of 2023 alone, approximately 800,000 Filipino workers were deployed abroad, a testament to the prevalence of OFWs in our society. According to the Social Weather Stations, 7% of Filipino households have an OFW member who is working or has worked abroad. Notably, the remittances sent by Filipino migrant workers constitute 10% of the country's GDP, playing a crucial role in the country’s growth.

Behind these staggering numbers lie individual Filipino workers with unique and touching stories. They are not just statistics; they are humans who feel fatigue, homesickness, and pain. They bear the emotional cost of leaving their loved ones to provide them with a good life.

From facing the unfamiliarity of working in a different country, the loneliness of being separated from loved ones, and supporting their family back at home—these actions are all out of love. The emotional toll of leaving loved ones behind is profound, and yet, it is their love for family that compels them to seek opportunities for a better life abroad.

Undoubtedly, OFWs are modern-day heroes, their heroic qualities shaped by the strength of their love. However, it is equally important to recognize that they too need our love and support. As a token of gratitude, let us shower them with the love, respect, and appreciation they deserve. It's time to give back and express our love freely to our unsung heroes – the OFWs.
