The Bangsamoro Youth Commission (BYC) joins the commemoration of the 56th Jabidah Massacre today.

The Jabidah Massacre, also known as the Corregidor Massacre, occurred on March 18, 1968, and took the lives of an estimated 200 young Moro men recruits who were unceremoniously killed in Corregidor Island, Cavite City.

This massive killing triggered the Bangsamoro people to unite against oppression and assertion to their right to self-determination.

As we remember this tragic event, let us honor the sacrifices and memories of Shuhada (Martyrs) who lost their lives in fighting against oppression and in massacres committed against the Moro people throughout the history.

The commemoration of the Jabidah Massacre is in line with the Proclamation No. 0001, series of 2021, issued by Chief Minister Ahod B. Ebrahim, declaring every March of the year as “Bangsamoro History Month” in the region.

PASIG CITY, February 20, 2024 – Recognizing the results of field surveys and consultations among national organizations and teachers, the Department of Education (DepEd) is gradually shifting back to the April-May break, starting with the adjustments of the remaining activities for School Year 2023-2024.

The Department highlighted that the gradual shift is vital to avoid disruption of school days necessary to cover all learning competencies.

“Alongside the resounding consensus from extensive consultations with teachers, learners, and relevant stakeholders, the same call is echoed by the findings of the study conducted by the Philippine Normal University (PNU) titled Analysis of the Basic Education School Year Calendar in the Philippines: Inputs to Policy,” the DO noted.

According to DepEd Order No. 03, series of 2024, DepEd moved the End of SY 2023-2024 to May 31, 2024, while the EOSY Break will now be from June 1 to July 26, 2024.

Accordingly, the Third Quarter Examinations will be on March 25-26, while the Fourth Quarter Exam will be on May 16-17, 2024. Schools are likewise encouraged to conduct their respective EOSY Rites from May 29-31, 2024.

Meanwhile, DepEd national activities will be conducted on the following dates:
• Palarong Pambansa - July 6 – 17, 2024
• National Festival of Talents - July 9 – 13, 2024
• National Schools Press Conference - July 9 – 13, 2024
• Learners’ Convergence - July 9 - 15, 2024

The DO also emphasized that no voluntary or mandatory tasks or activities shall be given to teachers from June 1 to 30, 2024.

The official start of the School Year 2024-2025 will start on July 29 and will end on May 16, 2025, with the Brigada Eskwela set to commence a week before the start of the new school year.

The Handbook of the 2023 Bangsamoro Electoral Code was formally launched through a Ceremonial Turnover held last January 18, 2024 in Cotabato City.

The Handbook is intended for a wide range of stakeholders involved in the BARMM electoral processes. It aims to equip voters with the knowledge and tools to participate effectively as well as providing COMELEC officials a reference guide for the efficient conduct of elections in the BARMM. It also provides aspiring candidates information about their rights and the electoral framework of the region.

LENTE is happy to share the Handbook to a wider set of audience. Through this, every Filipino, particularly the Bangsamoro, will be equipped with the knowledge necessary for a Safe, Accountable, Transparent, and Inclusive Parliamentary Elections which will inspire National Public Confidence.

The Handbook was made through the ACTIVATE program and through the partnership of LENTE with the Bangsamoro Parliament and the Bangsamoro Information Office.

The ACTIVATE program is implemented by The Asia Foundation, with support from the UK Government.
