Artists Steve Bates and jake moore are using weather data from a Davis weather station to generate music in real time based on current weather conditions.

We (The Dim Coast) are very excited to announce the web launch of A Sound That Never Was. We've been working on this project the past couple of years with a remarkable cast of collaborators...ASTNW is a new digital instrument that performs a score influenced by a project specific weather station and seismic sensor currently installed in Montreal. Sounds from a shared database play back influenced by local meteorological and vibratory conditions. The digital instrument was conceived, designed and constructed by Alexandre Burton (artificiel). The sound was created by a chorus of artists including Félicia Atkinson (FR), Matthew Cardinal (CA), Raven Chacon (US), crys cole (CA), Isabella Forciniti (AT/IT), David Grubbs (US), Timothy Herzog (US/CA), Sasha J. Langford (CA), Mani Mazinani (CA/IR), Christof Migone (CA), Marc A. Reinhardt (CA), Anju Singh (CA), Aho Ssan (FR), and Mark Templeton (CA). Design and website by OTAMI–ᐅᑕᒥ and Joni Schinkel. All welcome to listen over the website and we look forward to presenting the physical, multi-channel version near you in the months to come...
