This day July 28th (1946) Essex Civic leaders attended a special service at the Essex Regiment Chapel at Warley Barracks. They agreed to back the regiment’s £10,000 appeal to improve the chapel and install a carillon of bells as a memorial soldiers who were killed in the war.

since the factory opened originally part of Ford in 1964.

The answer to Mobday's 'Where in Essex' (old or new) is,
the Moby Dick feature at ‘Golf Kingdom’ at ‘Moby Dick junction’, Whalebone Lane & the A12 -(now LB Barking & Dagenham).
Whalebone Lane came first which in turn was named after whale bones which were used to mark a tollgate on the Romford Road.

This day July 24th (1699) The Widow Comon was tried
as a witch for the 3rd time. Although bound & cast into
the River Blackwater at Coggeshall she again swam to safety
& escaped.
She died in December that year, in her own home, of natural causes.

At one time at least 70 barges sailed from Leigh-on-Sea. Although in many cases the owner of these barges failed to keep detailed records and logs, Anne Price has uncovered fascinating details on many of the barges from a variety of sources whether in Leigh itself, contemporary newspaper reports and even uncatalogued manuscripts discovered in local libraries. of the 2nd Batt 44th East Essex Regiment of Foot,
captured one of 2 ‘French Imperial Eagles’ at the
battle of Salamanca during the Peninsular War in Spain.
The ‘Eagle’ is now on display in the Essex Regiment Museum.

This day July 21st (1906) Hainault Forest covering an area of 805 acres was dedicated to the public by Earl Carrington. After a campaign headed by Edward North Buxton, the area was bought for public use at a cost £22,000 of which London County Council contributed £10,000.
