Shout out to whoever is out here representing KSUA on wplace. We were totally surprised to see a big ol' KSUA already covering a nice chunk of UAF on the map. Let's go one step further, can we get the whole KSUA logo on here next?

Hey KSUA DJs and Friends!

KSUA is now accepting submissions for the 2025 Goldies Awards until July 23rd, 11:59pm. Not to brag, but KSUA has won over 100 of them in the past -- a feat that we never would have accomplished without talented and stylish DJs like you. For those not in the know, Goldies are an award granted by the Alaska Broadcasters Association at their annual awards ceremony.

If YOU or a friend have been broadcasting on KSUA for the past year, and you have any recordings of your show, this could be your chance to win an award with YOUR name on it, and make KSUA's Wikipedia page a little bit longer. Here are the KSUA-relevant categories:

Entertainment Program - This award recognizes a regularly scheduled broadcast which showcases entertainment value, creativity, production value, presentation and impact. Entry must not exceed 15 minutes.

Profile – This award recognizes a single report that explores the background and character of a particular person or group. These reports highlight an aspect of the subject's personal or professional life. Criteria includes human interest, subject portrayal, creative writing, entertainment value and effective use of audio. Entry must not exceed 10 minutes.

Promotional Announcement - This award recognizes the best single or series of announcements promoting a station sponsored event. Criteria include use of audio, creativity, editing and production value. Entry is not to exceed 60 seconds.

Radio Show - This award recognizes the best radio show with criteria including entertainment value, creativity, production value, impact and presentation. Radio show members must be employed by radio station at the time the program aired. No syndication. Entry must be up to a 15-minute composite airtime of a single day’s broadcast.

All content must have aired between 8:00pm July 25, 2024 and 7:59 PM Alaska Time July 25, 2025. To make a submission, simply email MP3 files of your show to [email protected] with the subject header "Goldies 2025: " followed by the category you are submitting for! Best of luck to everyone who submits!

IT'S BACK!

You can listen to KSUA online again. And with a fancy new button you can press to open the streaming link! One of these days, we'll get around to overhauling the website to be prettier and more dynamic. Add that to the "eventually" list for now!

Hey everyone - it's been a quiet couple of weeks at the station since all of staff is out on vacation right now. We are working on getting the online stream back up and it should be back up starting on the 15th.

However, for radio frequency listeners you can tune in tonight at 10pm for a very special (and abnormal) Alternative Archives broadcast with lots of surprises and supernatural events.

How about some nostalgia? HUGE shoutout to a longtime member of the KSUA family, CP, for sending us a huge zip folder full of historic KSUA Station IDs that we lost during the Automation Crash of Summer '24. These will begin playing on July 5th (I would have them start playing immediately, but our system schedules out two weeks in advance).

Again, thanks for listening to KSUA despite the bumps over the past year. The automation crash has taken so long to rebuild from, and I know the 25 or so station IDs I (Moody) made when I was Production Director got very repetitive, but they were the only ones we had on-hand after the crash. Even I got tired of them, so thankfully they'll be less common now and hopefully will become enjoyable again over time. We'll be trying to produce many new ones once the fall semester starts too!

We're running off of some pretty old tech at the moment, but I've been working on some streamlined backup systems that will allow us to recover much quicker if any of out machines go kaput again anytime soon. As for the old tech... keep an eye out for KSUA events this fall, we may be doing some events beginning in "donat" and ending in "ion drives" to help us get some upgrades. In the much nearer future, keep an ear out for the return of Easter Eggs on KSUA (the video game jingles that would sometimes play between songs before the crash.)

If YOU have any old IDs or PSAs, please email them to [email protected], we're still looking for lots of them. Especially the classic hygiene rap PSA!

Hey everyone! Thanks for listening to KSUA and jamming with us over the summer. We know things are pretty quiet here right now, it's been a turbulent time as of late. We've got about one and a half student workers hanging around this summer. Between it being summer and lots of current staff graduating, we aren't able to respond to things very quickly and some of the bumps have been a bit bumpier than usual. HOWEVER, we've got a real big initiative in the planning stages for this fall, and within the coming weeks some things that KSUA had lost for a while after our crash last summer will be returning to our airwaves. Stay tuned for updates!

Do you like Jazz? If you’ve been listening to KSUA over the past two months, chances are you might have heard tracks from the recently released Communal Heart album by The Sean Imboden Large Ensemble. The Sean Imboden Large Ensemble, led by the eponymous saxophonist and composer Sean Imboden, is a 17-piece ensemble based in Indianapolis. Here at KSUA, staff member Moody Pierce was lucky enough to interview Mr. Imboden, and inquired about his history with music and the creation of Communal Heart. Tune in June 14th, 18th, or 21st at 1pm to listen to this special interview, or visit the KSUA Blog for a transcript and audio file to listen at your own convenience:

What's new on KSUA? Time for a Weekly Music Drop! We've got a brand new EP and a couple of oldies returning to our automation system.

Smoochyface - Maximum Possum
A rockin', most excellent new EP by a rad band from Atlanta that we received in the mail. Both hosts of Alternative Archives (every Tuesday at 10pm) instantly loved it. Some of the songs have naughty words and we had to reserve them for night time play, so keep an ear out late at night to catch our robot DJ playing them. Trust me, it's worth it. Some of the songs are daytime friendly, like my personal favorite track, "I Tried"

Pere Ubu - Story of my Life
From the long running band Pere Ubu, this album is currently unavailable on Spotify so you've really gotta listen to KSUA to check it out! It's some really good rock music that we're giving some more love. Fun fact: It's older than all of current KSUA staff, but only by two years.

Patient, Patient - Professionals and Convicts
A fantastic rock album that seems to have gone under the radar. Unlike the last one it IS available on Spotify, but the artists have a criminally low 30 monthly listeners. Hopefully some plays on KSUA will retroactively crank those numbers!

I've got some blog posts deep diving into some of our recent uploads from the past month brewing, and right now I'm about to get cracking on returning a long-missing feature back to KSUA. Until next time!

Hey all! Sorry for no music updates in a bit, been a crazy week with emergency dental procedures (not very groovy). Without further ado, check out what throwbacks and new tracks have been added to our automation system (very groovy).

Covered by Alternative Archives, we've got Easy Action (2001) by Easy Action, The Devil, You + Me (2008) by The Notwist, and Crush (1998) by Scott Meldrum. Easy Action has got some nice angry alternative rock backings, while The Devil, You + Me and Crush have got some really nice mellow alternative rock sounds to them. Crush is a particularly interesting album, it has some great tracks and is unavailable on Spotify, in addition to not being easy to track down and listen to. So be sure to tune into KSUA to listen!

Two albums we recently received in the mail are Communal Heart by the Sean Imboden Large Ensemble and DREAMING by Todd Duda. Communal Heart is an excellent jazz album with really distinctive tracks and an impressive ensemble, and DREAMING is a nice soothing album with some relaxing acoustic really colorful and cool album art.

Check back again for more updates on what's dropping on KSUA!
