How narcissists inspired the birth of SWEARY CANARY FILMS
There aren’t many people who profess to be as invested in the study of Narcissistic Personality Disorder than Kristy Best, so, when it was suggested she turn her knowledge into a series, she couldn’t believe she had never thought of it herself.
After plotting the scripts on a flight from Oslo to Sydney, Kristy gave herself two weeks to clean the scripts up and organise a shoot. Kristy then assembled a small team of friends, ex-colleagues and ex-students to knock out 6 x 5 minute episodes in 2.5 days in what felt like a whirlwind experience.
Once the series was complete, she happened to show the rough cuts to Enzo Tedeschi who offered to come on board as an editor and encouraged Kristy to apply for post funding from Screen Australia. It took a bit of convincing but Kristy realised she couldn’t possibly complete the series without the extra support.
A few months later, Kristy received word her application was successful, giving the team a green light to finally complete the series.
