Good morning and happy last Saturday of 2023 to all :)
It has been a little while, but I wanted to share some insights and upcoming challenges that have proved to be intriguing.
I recently embarked upon the journey of becoming a certified Yoga instructor with Yoga Renew. I have my exam to complete, and then I will be âofficialâ. In all honesty, time to teach yoga is not something that my life can accommodate right now. That said, learning to teach yoga has been an eye-opening and beautiful experience.
On this journey, which started when I had a bit of a health scare last Summer, I learned that yoga is NOT just a slow/boring workout but in fact a life-changing and beautiful interaction with God (or whoever/whatever you believe in) and your mind, body and soul.
My husband, Brett, and I had done some hot yoga in London before, but it didnât really stick for me. After starting the teacher training (which came up as an opportunity to learn how to be a better teacher in general), I began to really understand the deep relevance of this beautiful art.
In Winnipeg, I found a beautiful hot yoga studio called Yoga Public, and it was amazing. Blessed to have the opportunity, this studio actually closed just a couple of weeks after we left. In London, we found a similar studio, Oxygen Yoga and Fitness. It is an amazing space (only made better by having the change room and shower space that Yoga Public had). We now have a date night every Sunday that weâre in town and it is a game changer.
For the certification, I kept putting off the exam because you only get one try and I wish I had done the exam while I was studying originally because I need to prep again to get it done.
For personal growth, another challenge I am looking at is the elusive â5am clubâ challenge. I have tried before, without success and have learned from some of my successful friends and colleagues that it comes down to your evening routine and getting enough sleep.
Side note: I LOVE sleep. Itâs one of my favourite things to do, which sounds almost sad if not heavenly.
There are alternative wake up strategies as well, such as the 6am wake up or the 6:30am.
I feel like trying the 5am club challenge for 30 days (week days) is a pretty cool idea. Apparently, over half of the most successful people in the world wake up at least 3 hours before their work day starts for exercise, reading, meditation and journaling. All things I already have passion for.
But can I do it before the sun graces us with its presence every morning? Maybe :)
2023 may end up being the year of challenges for me. And because my search for a legitimate, accountability-based 5am club challenge came up empty: here we are.
I donât want to assume that people will be as crazy as I intend to be and do all of these challenge, but if you are reading this and you want in, just let me know. I always want to help each other be better :)
Each challenge will have a lead up of 3-4 days so the first day is a softer start. Here is my draft list of challenges:
Challenge #1: February 5am Club Challenge
Challenage #2: No Candy, Sugar or Chocolate Challenge
Challenge #3: April no personal shopping/online shopping
Challenge #4: May 45 minutes of outdoor activity every day
Challenge #5: June 30 minutes of swimming daily
Challenge #6: July 15 minutes of meditation daily
Challenge #7: August Donate $20/day to charities
Challenge #8: September Call/text/visit 2 friends/family per day
Challenge #9: October No caffeine
Challenge #10: November Knit for 30 minutes/day
Challenge #11: December Play guitar 15 minutes every day
Stay tuned for my next post about this journeyâŠand then for my daily check in for accountability.
Letâs do this :)
