Janine Fulla, Empowerment & Trauma Recovery Coach treating narcissistic abuse talks about “flying monkeys” – a term from the Wizard of Oz. This is when the Wicked Witch of the East sends out flying monkeys to go and do everything for her. Not only can this happen in a family, but also in a business with coworkers, or even with friends.

It starts out fun, positive, and happy. You feel like you have finally found someone that understands you until everything is turned upside down.
Does this sound like something you’re experiencing in your romantic relationship? If so, you may be with a narcissist.
Do you experience
👉 Arguments that result in put-downs?
👉 Rollercoaster date nights?
👉 Your priorities being put on the back burner and devalued?
In Alyssa Sybertz's article, "Are You Dating A Narcissist? Here's How to Tell," she explains that narcissists have challenges forming true emotional commitments and are incapable of maintaining two-way happy relationships.

Do you know what makes a narcissist dangerous?

Have you ever heard someone insist, “I never said that. You must be confused,” when you know for a fact that person did say what you thought they did?
You might be dealing with a covert narcissist.
A covert narcissist is more subtle and reserved while having a sense of entitlement, a pretentious sense of self, and a hunger for admiration and acceptance of others.
My film, Running With a Covert Narcissist, is an educational documentary to help the public understand the disorder and show you how to recognize the signs. The link below will direct you to my website, where you can watch the film and explore resources for dealing with covert narcissism.

Have you met someone who, in the beginning, seems helpful and aloof but caring? They give off an innocent and “average Joe” vibe. You get to know each other, and they gain your trust, maybe even become your friend or lover, and then they start to change. Simple conversations become convoluted, confusing arguments. You feel like you’re going crazy because they know exactly how to push your buttons and get you to question yourself and your sanity. They’re slowly alienating you from people you care about and maybe even turning them against you.
These types of people can be known as covert narcissists, aka closet narcissists. Often, a covert narcissist develops a narcissistic personality disorder as a child from trauma or other issues in their formative years. As adults, they lie, project, and gaslight, among other things, to manipulate and get their way.
Have you encountered a covert narcissist? Are you or someone you care about currently in a relationship with one and want to learn more? Check out my film, Running With a Covert Narcissist. You can learn more about how a narcissist acts and find resources for therapists specializing in covert narcissism and personality disorders. ⬇️

Three most common characteristics of a narcissist you need to know:
Lack of empathy: Narcissists only care about themselves and their feelings and have difficulty understanding, relating, and expressing care to others.
Insecurity: Although they appear confident, they have difficulty tuning into their feelings. They seek validation from others and can easily fit into groups.
Big ego: narcissists have difficulty dealing with critics and believe they are above everyone else, leading to overestimating and exaggerating their abilities.

Are you dealing with a covert narcissist? If you have a narcissist in your life, the best way to handle them is by dissociating and distancing yourself from them. However, here are four helpful tips when communicating with them is necessary:
1. Remain even-tempered and respectful: avoid correcting, ridiculing and raising your voice.
2. Set Boundaries: make your limits clear by using phrases such as, “I won’t allow you to speak to me that way.”
3. Advocate for Yourself: be sure to speak your mind and stay strong in your position.
4. Know When to Walk Away: if the conversation is escalating or you need to take a break, know that you can come back to the conversation later if needed.
If you or someone you know is dealing with a covert narcissist, head to my website to watch my documentary, Running With a Covert Narcissist. You’ll also find links to additional videos, articles and information on how to speak with a featured therapist for further help.
