KLPS Channel 18 KLPS-TV was started in 1992 by then-assistant principal C.W. Stessman. Niles, in turn, has made many internships and paid positions available to LPS students.

It has developed from a "club"-type way of getting school announcements made from a closet in the Library to a full, 24/7 cable-access television station based out of Liberty High School, with additional studios located in Liberty North High School, Liberty Junior High School, South Valley Junior High School, Lberty Middle School and Liberty Middle School. KLPS-TV has been a national Pacemaker win

ner (akin to the Pulitzer for high school students) and a four-time Pacemaker finalist. The station regularly wins the State Show-Me Award (akin to a state championship) from the Missouri Interscholastic Press Association, as well as many individual awards. Complete programming is available by going to the Liberty Public Schools website (www.liberty.k12.mo.us) and clicking on the KLPS link. The station has been the beneficiary of many equipment gifts from local stations, including Metro Sports, KMBC Channel 9 and KCPT Public Television. In 2010 the District outsourced the station's technical support at a tremendous savings to the District and partnered with the Niles Media Group for this technology help. The station's general manager is Ann Bertoldie. She can be reached at 816-736-5346 or by email at [email protected].
