Happy New Year! I took a Polar Bear ride this am. Waited until the fog broke and headed to some of my favorite spots around the area from the bay to the foothills. Face felt a bit numb after but was a great day to start the new year! Feeling comfortable and dialed in with my riding gear right now. This is not a paid shot-out – it is legit gratitude for quality products. The
jeans with Kevlar liner are comfortable, while a bit heavier. They are perfect for cooler weather. The
Columbia (unlined) with a light sweatshirt under was great for 38 degrees. It is a custom cut jacket – so it fits perfect. The x boots a bit more narrow than my old engineer boots which is perfect for me, but if you have a wider foot I’d size up a size. Really stoked on the fit of the x Langlitz helmet. I also feel a bit more “safe” than my previous low profile helmet. Not pictured gloves. So comfortable, soft and nearly perfect. We are lucky to have them just 30 miles south in Centralia, Washington.

This year we made a free giveaway magazine taken from coverage of women builders/riders printed int THE TON for the Sturgis Women’s Ride-in Bike Show put on by and to have at . Unfortunately we got Covid for Dream Roll. We have a few remaining copies online at thetonmag.com.

Here is what I put in the forward – Susan Grisham (co-founder/publisher of THE TON since 2018)

I first envisioned THE TON six years ago after spending a hot afternoon at a bike show in the California desert. This made me want THE TON to be something different, to include the voices and stories that may not get space in other motorcycle media. Anyone familiar with motorcycle magazines over the past 50 years knows that women riders have also been underrepresented.

I want THE TON to be a space where women riders, builders, artists, and businesspeople are presented as equals in their field and not as anomalies. We envision a bike culture that does away with the notion that women are motorcycle accessories or used solely for the purposes of being sexualized to sell bikes. That idea is well past its prime, and it is a time for a change. It is time that women riders represent themselves in whatever manner they wish. F**k those who say you can’t, and f**k those who try to stand in your way of having a good time.

I have always felt fortunate to come of age in the punk scene where I learned there is no time like now to create what you want but don’t see, to do it yourself, and to not give a crap about what anyone else says. This is a call to action for anyone who does not see themselves represented; create your own magazines, content, merch, events or whatever way you can for your voices to be heard and faces seen.

If anything we have done at THE TON has meant anything, it is my hope that it has inspired others to use their voice in whatever manner they can to share their stories. Because in the end, the more people who step forward and show themselves, the better and richer the experience is for all of us.

2023 has been a wild ride. We would like to reflect on some of the great moments of the year. Thank you all for your continued support. It means a lot to a small business in an environment where big $ is out to keep you down. Your liking, sharing, attending, our events and buying our goods and magazine is a testament to the fighting chance of the underdogs out there.

Today we are thinking back on our ride-in party Rally in the Valley 2! -inthevalley2. Where the drizzle in the morning didn't let the party fizzle. We could not have done this without the hard work of our group putting it on. as well as our volunteers, judges, vendors, and bands and **kingeagles! Thanks to the sponsors:

I’ve heard some people ask if the helmet is “worth it”. I think it is, great craftsmanship and made by hand. Good fit, oddly quiet in helmet. I couldn't ask for much better and I’ve tried a lot of the low profile helmets out there. Well worth the price to me.

Ps I bought this helmet, this is not a paid advertisement-just letting anyone who cares know my thoughts after trying it out for a spin.
