It’s an almost weekly thing that I get requests from non-subscribers for a sample copy (free) of RodMaker. Trouble is, a magazine of RodMaker’s quality isn’t inexpensive to produce nor is it inexpensive to mail. But I like to try and make at least one offer for free magazines each year. There is a catch, of course - you have to pay for the postage! That amounts to $3. So if you send me $3 with your return address I’ll quickly mail out a copy (my choice) of the magazine.

And this year I’ll even go one (4-actually) better…. if you’ll spring for priority mail postage ($10) I’ll send you FIVE free copies (again, my choice of issues). I’ll do my best to send an assortment that spans many years of the magazine’s production.

The annual RodMaker Magazine Subscriber Reception is the 2nd largest gathering of custom rod builders in the world. Second in size only to the International Custom Rod Building Exposition, it is something the magazine has hosted for subscribers since 2005. There is never any charge and all prizes are given away as door prizes, not raffle items. Nobody makes any money on this event (other than the hotel venue!) and nearly 100 door prizes are awarded each year. This year's grand prizes were a CRB Pro G2 electronic variable speed wrapping machine from Foundation Outdoors, and a complete Renzetti Craftsman Rod Lathe donated by Renzetti Inc. and RodMaker Magazine.

This year's magazine reception will feature the usual free drawings and give-aways. In addition, there will be two grand prizes drawn for - a complete RBS Pro G2 Ultimate Power Wrapper donated by Foundation Outdoors and a Renzetti Master Rod Lathe donated by RodMaker Magazine. If you plan to attend the reception, please make sure your subscription is up to date.

Each year the magazine hosts a reception for its subscribers. Although this is not part of the ICRBE, it is held on Saturday evening, February 24 in the grand ballroom below the Embassy Suites which is down a long hallway from the convention center where the Expo is held. It is convenient for the many magazine subscribers that attend the Expo.

Each year we have quite a few people who are not subscribers and show up wanting to attend the magazine reception. I hate to turn people away but the magazine cannot possibly afford to host this for non-subscribers., nor should it be expected to.

So if you are coming to the Expo and wish to attend the magazine reception, please make sure your subscription is up to date. Only current subscribers will be admitted.

There will be a 2024 International Custom Rod Building Exposition. The new issue of RodMaker is being delivered nationwide this week and the announcement of a 2024 EXPO has already generated requests for more than 40 booth spaces before I have even had the chance to begin sending out exhibitor contracts. I'll get them out later this week. Regardless, it would appear that another great EXPO is in the works. If your company would like an exhibitor contract, please inquire via [email protected]

438 rod builders attended the recent RodMaker Magazine Reception held in Winston Salem on February 25. Over 110 door prizes were awarded (all free - there was nothing to buy). Grand prize winners were Kevin Fiant (Flex Coat DC777 machine) and a lady whose name I have managed to misplace. She took home the Renzetti Craftsman Rod Lathe. The grand prizes were supplied and donated by RodMaker Magazine. (If anyone knows the name of the lady that won the Renzetti, please shoot me a PM. Thanks.)

RodMaker Magazine will have a fairly large selection of back issues available at the upcomming Expo this weekend. Not every issue ever printed will be available, of course, as many have sold out over the years. But I expect to have at least 40 to 50 of the still available back issues on hand for sale.

As as aside, doing the inventory and magazine sales from 2022, we found that between the regular subscription copies and back issues, over 136,000 copies of RodMaker were mailed last year. This is why the most successful companies in the custom rod building craft all advertise in RodMaker.

For the last few years a new RodMaker Magazine Special Publication has been unveiled at the EXPO. This year will be no different. This time out, however, the publication leans more towards the scientific aspect of rod building and less on techniques or aesthetics. Drawn largely from the biomechanical research done by the U.S. Air Force in the 1950's, the information within offers the custom rod builder a huge advantage over commercial rod manufacturers who deal with the masses instead of the individual customer. Most of the articles have appeared previously in RodMaker Magazine over some 15 year period but now they have been compiled into one volume. I believe it is the most important work the magazine has ever published. Available in a limited printing, I will have copies available at the Expo. Also on hand will be copies of the Rich Forhan and Nuno Paulino books which debuted last year.

At this year's magazine reception we will be awarding two grand prizes. One is a Flex Coat D777 complete wrapping and finishing machine and the other is a Renzetti Master Rod Lathe. Both of these units have been purchased by RodMaker Magazine and will be awarded by random drawing at Saturday evening's reception for magazine subscribers.

This issue contains the admission tickets to the yearly magazine reception, which is held on Saturday evening February 25th, 2023, at the Embassy Suites Ballroom in Winston Salem, NC. This is a convenient time and place as hundreds of subscribers will be in town for the annual International Custom Rod Building Exposition which is being held that same weekend in the MC Benton Convention Center next door.

Dozens of door prizes will be awarded and light refreshments served. If you wish to attend the magazine reception please make sure your subscription is up to date and current. This event is not open to the general public. Only current magazine subscribers will be admitted to the RodMaker Reeception.
