Hello friends, I'm excited to announce the start a new series. This one is on French Explorer Jules Dumont d'Urville. The man circled the globe three times between 1822-1840. He is also known for his critical role in acquiring the Venus de Milo for France.

I recently did an interview with the Curious Worldview Podcast. The host, Ryan Faulkner-Hogg runs a website that is dedicated to things such as journalism and finding out about the world. His podcast is just a a part of all the stuff that he does. Ryan was great, and we talked a long time about a bunch of different stuff. We, of course, talked about explorers, but also a lot about the creative side of making the podcast, which was fun.

So, please check it out if you want to here me ramble on about a bunch of different subjects.

Really good article related to Francisco Vázquez de Coronado.

Certainly the oldest firearm ever found in the continental United States, and possibly the oldest-known firearm produced in the New World, a rampart gun recently discovered in Arizona is one of six associated with Francisco Vázquez de Coronado’s famous search for the “Seven Cities of Gold.”

Our next series will take us to Australia - and the man who is perhaps the greatest explorer of the interior of the continent - John McDouall Stuart. The man was a social misfit, raging binge drinker, and nailed the crazed prospector/preacher vibe. He also had incredible endurance and extraordinary survival instincts. It is a great story. First episode should be out on April 10.

PS - I recommend listening to the Burke and Wills Expedition series if you have not. It will make a great companion piece.

New series has started. This is a unique one. In 2011, Matt Rutherford set out to circumnavigate the Americas. Alone. Nonstop. In a 40 year old, 27 foot long sailboat. That means no dropping anchor. No going ashore. No having visitors. Nothing. Just him and the ocean for 300+ days as he tried to circle both North and South America. It's a great story.

In 2011, Matt Rutherford set out to become the first person to ever sail around the Americas. He had a 40-year old, 27-foot long sailboat – the St. Brendan. As this was a solo voyage, he was …

It seems weird that some mountains have not been summited - even to this day. Here's one that recently fell to a South Korean team.

Last May, in an unheralded first ascent, a South Korean team summited 6,694m Phu Kang on the Nepal-Tibet border.
