Life Celebration of Paul James Beck, Jr Celebrating the life of Paul James Beck, Jr

05/03/2024

This is a difficult subject.

Many of you know I lost my oldest son in September of 2023. His body was found far away and already decomposing. He was a John Doe in the morgue until he was finally identified by his fingerprints. After he was identified, I was notified of his death. I had not seen or heard from him in a month. During that very trying time I worried constantly. If his fingerprints had not been on file, I would still be worrying and he would still be a nameless victim.

My children were all fingerprinted in the late 90s through a program in which participating children were fingerprinted and their information put into a database. God forbid you are ever informed of your child's death. But this can also help to identify an abducted or lost child for their safe return home to their parents. I highly recommend fingerprinting your children for their safety and your peace of mind.

Thank you for watching.

Rachel shared these pics from her Facebook Memories from 2012 with me yesterday. She had just finished cutting and spiking her big brother's hair. He's one of the few people that actually looked good with a mohawk! She captioned the share, "He was such a goofball." He was often funny and goofy to get a smile or laugh out of someone. I miss his sense of humor and his laugh. RIP Paulie Sonshine.

Blessed Heavenly Birthday to my Paulie Sonshine. You saved me from myself when you came into this world and you took the best of me with you when you left. You deserved a far better life than I could give you. I hope you are happy and at peace now.
Love, Mom

My Giant Sprout 💚 Paulie Sonshine 🌞 and me in late December 2019. I came back from Maryland, and he came back from North Carolina with the help of my niece. We were both homeless but together in Florida. The best I could manage was for him to live out of the back of my van. We would get rooms here and there when we had funds or someone gave us comp hotel nights. This was at the Tru in Sebring. My daughter let us use her Hilton points. I had spent the Fall and beginning of Winter inside. He had spent that time freezing on the streets of Raleigh -Durham and had been treated for frostbite and exposure several times. I was just glad to have him where he wouldn't freeze to death. He suffered on the streets for the past six years, with the exception of less than a year that he had an apartment on his own in Avon Park. It caught fire while he was sleeping. Fortunately he survived but he was homeless again. When you see a homeless person, please be kind. They are someone's child, and maybe, like Paul, a parent, sibling, and uncle as well.

My mother always teased me that I would be late to my own funeral. Thankfully, my Paulie Sonshine didn't inherit that tendency from me. My boy is "home". We aren't opening the box of ashes until Rachel is with us. Daniel opened the outer packaging and lovingly handed me each item one at a time. Totalling about 11 pounds, in all... My Giant Sprout. 💚

Working on the photos to choose from for the cover of Paul's Memorial Service program. Sister Roxanne Ressler is being so kind as to create the program since I don't have access to any word processing programs at this time. She will choose whichever works best with printing back to back.

Paul's death certificate has been held up by the State of Ohio because his death is still being investigated. The funeral home is express shipping his ashes to be here by his Memorial on Sunday. I just want my son with me. The death certificate will come later.

Paul used to ask me to sing Amazing Grace to him acapella. But he loved bagpipes, too. I think he would have liked this.

Paul's urn came today. They haven't shipped his ashes yet. His urn fits in my arm like he did when he was a baby. My 6'5" tall son departing his Earthly life the same size as he began. 😭

Sami wrote a beautiful eulogy for Paul. I don't know yet if she will be able to read it at his service or not.

Miss Dot was always trying to reach the fan pulls to play with them. Tall Paul gave her the opportunity. 😻
