What can you do to build your personal brand on LinkedIn?
That was the topic of conversation when we spoke with Alan Shoebridge, Associate Vice President at Providence.
Alan's been investing time on the LinkedIn platform and we thought it'd be interesting to hear from someone else about their experiences of what works and what to focus on...
We covered:
❓ Some people are hesitant to promote themselves on LinkedIn, is that a mistake?
❓ What should people do to get the most exposure from podcasts & articles they've appeared in?
❓ Any tips for effectively sharing content where you have been featured by others?
❓ How can people avoid coming across as arrogant when sharing accomplishments?
Hope this is helpful, and if you've any of your own tips to add in the comments, would love to read and respond to those!

🦸Here's a LinkedIn superpower for you!!
We were reminded of it on our call with LinkedIn Expert trainer Mark White, a snippet of which is included here as a quick, actionable tip...
🔎 The superpower? Learning to make use of all the search functionality that LinkedIn offers, even on a free account!
The majority of users are barely scratching the surface when it comes to leveraging this. But the ability to search for posts (just from your network or from the broader LinkedIn community), to search for companies in target sectors, to search in-depth for people / prospects... all these and more are things that most people aren't aware you can do or aren't using to their full potential.
Are you?

❓ Your LinkedIn network - is it better to build a targeted or a broad network of contacts?
There are arguments can be made for both, but in conversation with Jen Corcoran we were advocates of going down the focused network building path.
Just some of the reasons for this include:
1. Greater visibility for your content if the first wave of people who see your content are interested in it.
2. What you see in your homepage feed is derived from your network, so the more focused your network the more relevant the content you see on LinkedIn is.
3. You appear higher in relevant search result pages if you have a targeted network on LinkedIn.
What has your approach to this been, out of interest? Any other reasons you'd add for choosing one approach over the other?

We've all been on the receiving end of these, right?!...
... pushy sales messages in your LinkedIn DMs, often within hours of accepting a connection request. 🙄
But if that's not the right approach to getting conversations started with your new connections, what is?
Delighted to say this was covered in our LinkedIn Experts Q&A session with Beth Granger, the short clip of which you'll find below.
Hope it helps (are you using LinkedIn voicemails already?) - and are there any other approaches you have found work well? Would love to read about this in the comments!

This one should be a help to all Solopreneurs!
Should you prioritise building your LinkedIn presence through your personal profile...
... or through growing your company page on LinkedIn?
Speaking to Jen Corcoran, there are good reasons to have both. Not least because you may want to be able to advertise in the future - and right now, that can only be done through a company page.
Personal profiles tend to get more visibility though, for everyone who's got more than a tiny handful of contacts.
Hope this is good food for thought - and what's your approach been to date?

⚠️ Fake profiles on LinkedIn ⚠️
How can you spot them? What should you look out for?
In their least harmful form, fake profiles are being used to spam users. In more sinister cases, they can put you at risk of being defrauded.
So how can you protect yourself?
Some thoughts were shared here in our Q&A session with LinkedIn expert Judi Hays.
Any other tips you'd add for spotting and avoiding fake profiles?

⏱️ Not got much time but want to improve your LinkedIn profile?
Aside from improving the Keywords you include on your LinkedIn profile, what are the 3 top things people could improve if time is in short supply?
This is something David Petherick shared with us on one of our LinkedIn Experts' live calls. In this quick snippet, we discuss focusing on:
🟢 Your About section
🟢 Your LinkedIn Headline
🟢 Your Experience section
It was interesting that for the latter section, David highlights the importance of including not just your current role but focusing on what difference you make to potential customers or employers (so your profile really appeals to the intended audience).
