Yeovil gets slammed in local Facebook groups. Often by people that live here. Those criticisms are often valid too. The town centre has been a mess, our leadership has been dreadful for the most part and we have the same issues with crime that every other town in the U.K has.

But that’s not what I see.

When I look out at and think about Yeovil I see people doing great charity work. I see community leaders trying to make safe spaces for vulnerable people. I see a town of funny, brilliant and loving people that just want to work hard, spend time with their families and suffer the excruciating anxiety of watching England play football.

Yeovil is it’s cleaners, mechanics, nurses, engineers, teachers, volunteers and everyone just trying to live their lives. It’s the brilliant and hard working mums and dads. Yeovil is It’s country park, it’s college and its football club.

Yeovil is a place of good, decent and kind people all struggling along and supporting each other. People that rally around to support someone dealing with grief. The same people that raised money to buy me a new moped after mine was stolen and burned. I never think about the hurt of the theft. I remember the pride and love I felt thanks to you. The people who live in Yeovil.

I love this town and I understand why you might not. but before I’m done I’ll make sure I do everything I can to help you see it the way I do.

I believe that politicians are temporary custodians that should work for you. If you want Yeovil to improve then YOU have got to be part of the change. It’s your town.
