Team Sinigang, Team Ginataang, or Team Sisig? 🥘🥥♨️

It’s incredible how many dishes Southeast Asian countries have in common 🌴 the use of the sour broth for Sinigang, the coconut milk of the Ginataang, and the meaty, crispy essence of Sisig is reminiscent of a lot of flavors from our Cambodian & Vietnamese upbringing. 🙇🏽‍♀️🙇🏽‍♂️

We’ve always wanted a dance battle to happen so when the Landlord offered to give us a stage, we jumped at the opportunity! 💃🏽🕺🏽

Before Hypefoodies, the travel vlogs, the EDM festivals - there was breakdancing. CK’s older brother Dara is one of the founding members of the bboy crew “ATD” back in the 90s. With a 10 year age gap, it really influenced that little kid in the early 2000s 🙇🏽‍♂️

Us bboys looked up to many local crews such as ATD, Labratz Crew, Battle Banditz, Lionz of Zion, Culture Shock DC etc. so having current and former members from these legendary crews at our festival was truly a full circle moment 🫶🏽

Shout out to and all the dancers that showed up and showed out!!

It touched our hearts when we heard Annandale locals say they have never seen Khmer dancing like this before - courtesy of 👸🏻👸🏻🇰🇭 a big win for the culture!

Story Time: Our very own CK of Hypefoodies participated in Khmer cultural dance as a Hanumanh disciple (Monkey King) and his older brother, Dara, actually danced with one of the performers who danced at the Block Party that evening 🇰🇭🙏🏼

We wanted a Lion Dance to celebrate our Vietnamese heritage (also big in Chinese culture of course) 🦁🐉🥁

Hung Si 雄獅 answered the call! Fun fact: You feed the Lion lettuce because the Chinese word for “lettuce” sounds very similar to the word “wealth” 🥬💸 The Lion shoots the lettuce back at you - the more lettuce rained upon you, the more luck you’ll receive 🤞

The Hype Volunteers were the lifeline of 💟

We initially wanted 3 separate lines, but unfortunately were given one GIANT line. Us and our poor volunteers had to scramble at 4:30pm to make it work 😅 we weren’t able to really eat or enjoy our own festival… thank you to our frontline volunteers for improvising 🫶🏽

Sign holders are NEEDED at every festival that may have a tight capacity 🪧 we wished we were able to buy more signs, but were not given the budget to do so. Thank you to our sign holders for scanning the festival for the longest lines to give our guests some sort of comfort.

Merch Booth - We appreciate your dedication and resourcefulness in pitching our shirts and Hype Fans 🪭 also being a point of contact for our Volunteers.

Floaters - You all provided a much needed boost in morale, especially when others were getting overwhelmed, you were there to help 🤝 shout out to those with special skills such as fixing the sound for the stage.

Lastly, a big thank you to our Lead Volunteers 👯‍♀️ you were instrumental in relaying information and taking control of problem situations when we couldn’t be present. Your communication was vital!

For all of you who couldn’t use your vouchers because vendors were sold out, please don’t hesitate to DM us. 🙇🏽‍♂️🙇🏽‍♀️

Thank you all for being apart of Hypefoodies Block Party 2023 👏👏👏 shout out to our amazing food vendors pumping out meals for hours, our volunteers (and us) running around frantically, our talented performers putting on a jaw-dropping show, and most importantly, you, the HYPE FAM 🙇🏽‍♂️🙇🏽‍♀️ we appreciate you!

We had little to no donations, only a pair of sponsors, paid thousands of dollars out of our own pocket, and a very very tight budget, but you all had so much PATIENCE 🫶🏽 thanks for understanding.
