Dr. Abiy Ahmed speeches About LGBT
community

-Since taking office as the Prime Minister of Ethiopia in April 2018, Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali has made statements in support of the LGBT community. In a speech given to a group of youth on 9th of May, Dr. Ali said that "different orientations and expressions of love are part of life and integral to the fabric of a society."

- Two weeks later, on 23rd of May, during a meeting with religious leaders in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, Dr. Ali reaffirmed his stance on the rights of the LGBT community, saying that "everyone has the right to love, irrespective of social positions, religions, and ethnicity."

- In early June, Dr. Ali met with LGBT activists in Addis Ababa and spoke about the importance of the LGBTQ+ community in the country's development. He pledged his government's continued support for their rights, and urged religious leaders to show more understanding and tolerance towards this marginalized community.

- Last month, on 14th of July, Dr. Ali delivered a keynote address at the opening of Africa's first LGBTQ+ rights conference in Addis Ababa. In his speech, the Prime Minister emphasized the need for a tolerant and inclusive society, and called on all Ethiopians to shoulder their responsibility in promoting human rights.
