The Ernest Warther Museum & Gardens in Dover is a celebration of works by master carver Ernest "Mooney" Warther. Among the many highlights of the museum are the intricate wooden replicas of trains that chronicle the history of the steam engine from 250 B.C. to 1942. About 35 works were created over the course of 40 years with each piece carved by hand, with many models consisting of thousands of individual pieces. Once a week, about a dozen incarcerated women unpack their string instruments for a group music lesson at the Northeast Reintegration Center in Cleveland. A 15th century Byzantine icon of the Virgin Mary and the infant Christ at The Cleveland Museum of Art served as an artistic and spiritual muse for Aleksandra Vrebalov. The Serbian composer stages her original work inspired by the art, “Antennae,” April 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the museum.
Two retiring magistrates with a love for the performing arts founded Outside Circle Theater Project OCTP in Lorain County to provide a platform for underrepresented voices in the community. The group welcomes participants of any of age, background or acting experience. Outside Circle’s inaugural show, “The Downside,” is March 22 and 23 at 7 p.m. at Greater Victory Christian Ministries in Lorain. Molly McFadden of Cleveland wrote the play, which addresses the challenges of aging.

Audra Skuodas was an Oberlin-based artist who flew just under the radar, sometimes garnering the interest of national and international galleries. But she never fully broke through to the point of mainstream stardom. Five years after her passing, her children and local curators are championing her work to broaden its reach. The Audra Skuodas Trust partnered with Abattoir Gallery in Cleveland for the exhibition, “On Intimacy,” which runs through April 14.
David Shimotakahara is an award-winning dancer and choreographer currently in the midst of the 25th season of his contemporary company, GroundWorks DanceTheater. Collaboration is at the heart of GroundWorks and the company has long championed new works by a wide range of national choreographers. “To be able to bring people together, to collaborate together and try new things, hopefully to create things that haven’t been experienced before,” Shimotakahara said. “It’s a gift.” To celebrate 25 seasons, GroundWorks DanceTheater presents a series of performances in March with the Theron Brown Trio in Akron and Cleveland.
The Medina Ice Festival is among the largest ice festivals in the region. More than 100 sculptures will be on view in Downtown Medina Friday through Monday at the 30th annual event. The artworks are all hand-carved by a small team at Elegant Ice Creations, led by world champion ice carver Aaron Costic. In addition to live carving demonstrations, festivities include a fire and ice tower, where ice and fire battle one another, as well as an ice slide and speed carving competitions.
Space men, Cleveland and a young woman’s journey with life, love and Black activism all collide in “The Breakfast at the Bookstore,” written by Cleveland playwright Lisa Langford and set in an East Side Cleveland neighborhood. To the play's director, Nina Domingue, it's "a love letter to young people in the movement... examining how young people find their purpose and how they tend to do it differently from the generation before them.” "The Breakfast at the Bookstore" runs through Feb. 18 at Karamu House.
