I got so excited about our insurance approval that I didn't provide a proper update! Aurora is 8 years old and will be almost 9 if this takes. I can't believe we're doing this...

We had given up on the idea of having two children -- something I tell my clients to never do. Don't compromise your dreams! (Unless you're truly done and can't go on like this, which I can say we weren't given that we've been paying for embryo storage all these years.)

✅ Transfer cycle plan (modified natural cycle)
✅ Hysteroscopy and biopsy (all good)
✅ Mammo
✅ MFM sign-off (wants me to be seen only by MFMs during the entire pregnancy, should we get that far, because I’m “extremely high risk and old”)
✅ Neurologist sign-off (weaning off of several meds under close monitoring)
✅ Insurance authorization

Coming up:

➡️ MRI because they saw something “probably benign” on the mammo and are being extra cautious due to family history (Feb. 25)
➡️ OB appointment to discuss the MRI results (March 1)
➡️ Embryo transfer (should happen in mid- to late-March)

Next update: When we have a definitive transfer date!

Spotted in the wild at a Barnes & Noble in Minneapolis, MN! (I personally love that it's next to a book titled Hangry. 😂)

In case you were wondering about the stuffy next to the book... That is Mimi. Despite my objections, she wears a cowboy hat and bandana. Mimi is Aurora's favorite stuffy, and she's been there since the beginning. If you look closely, you can see a green smile. That's where we cut off the pacifier that was at one point larger than Aurora's tiny face. Mimi travels with my husband on work trips and takes selfies along the way.

Check your local bookstore and/or library for Stronger Than Infertility, and send me your selfies (with or without a stuffy)!

I've been keeping a secret...mostly because it seemed too good to be true. I've famously said we had no fertility coverage when we were trying to have Aurora, and that's 100% true.

However, to our complete surprise, my husband was reading our benefit book for this year...and WE HAVE COVERAGE FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER! I'm off to get a hysteroscopy to check out the ol' uterus.

So, check your benefits. You never know what you'll find.

It's OK not to be OK. Real question: Are you OK today?

I'll start: I'm not. I'm struggling with the 10-year anniversary in 8 days of Alexis and Eric being stillborn. I'm struggling with turning 40 in a few weeks. I'm struggling with always putting others before myself to the point of utter exhaustion.

So, I repeat: Are you OK today? If not, reach out to me or someone in your support network. We often don't know others are struggling -- sometimes, until it's too late. xoxo

On Christmas Eve 8 years ago, I spent hours in a MRI machine. I didn't ask enough questions beforehand, but I learned afterward that doctors were checking on Aurora's brain.

Ever since our 24-week appointment, her growth rate had stalled and her amniotic fluid amount had receded to the point of alarm. By this point, I was 28 weeks pregnant, and the doctors were still trying to determine the cause. So, in the MRI machine I went.

Despite all of our issues, her brain was perfectly normal, which was a relief to say the least! We wouldn't get our 'why' answer until she was delivered via emergency C-section 5 weeks later.
