1:50PM: Some scattered showers and storms, some strong, are moving across the area. Expecting some additional development this afternoon! Some isolated storms may be severe containing hail and gusty winds.
1:20PM Radar: Only Southeast Michigan has been left out of the early afternoon rain for the most part! Although that may change later today.
As for severe weather, we've got our eyes on Mid/Central Michigan, contained in a SLIGHT risk. Other areas included in a MARGINAL Risk into Southeast Michigan.
All hazards are possible today!
🧊 HAIL = Possible, especially later in the afternoon.
💨 WINDS = Possible, especially later in the afternoon.
♒️ FLOODING = Possible through out the day, even with non severe storms.
🌪 TORNADO = Limited threat, some ingredients present for the right storms later this afternoon.
WOW! Take a look at this rotation associated with a cell that moved through Northville earlier.
📷 Lisa S. captured over a minute of footage as the sky churned above her.
This is a perfect example of storm rotation that can happen on days where the ingredients aren't all there for tornadic development. In the right parameter space... this thing could have potentially spun up a tornado!
1:05PM Radar Loop: We've got some strong storms moving onshore in Western Michigan, particularly near Muskegon! Looks like gusty winds and some hail is possible with these.
If you're out and about outdoors, definitely keep an eye on conditions! And remember to get indoors when there's lightning outside.
💨 GUSTY WINDS TO CONTINUE TODAY 💨
Winds will likely gust to 25-35MPH for many of us in the lower half of Michigan later today. Not quite as strong as some of the gusts we had yesterday but still enough to be an annoyance!
Keep an eye on your light outdoor items! Luckily, we think most trashcans will be spared but the occasional tip over is certainly possible for them empty cans!
9:10AM RADAR: We've got some showers and a couple of thunderstorms moving through portions of the Lower Peninsula. Watching more organized convection off to the west that will bring us the first main round, and then we're expecting some additional development into the evening for potential round 2.
6:05PM Radar: Some scattered storms, some stronger than others, currently moving across the area. NW Oakland County will want to watch these close, some small hail and gusty winds possible.
Moving SE!
3:10PM: Storms and showers are moving into Western Michigan. Isolated severe threat does still exist with limited wind and hail threats, along with some potential heavy rain causing isolated flooding.
7:50AM: We've got the last of the rain along with a couple rumbles of thunder moving through the area here this morning. Once this early precipitation moves out, we expect clouds to also start to generally clear out for many! Should be a great day overall.
12:00AM RADAR: Storms continuing to move into Upper Peninsula and portions of the Northwest Lower Peninsula. Including Traverse City and surrounding areas.
Areas further south along the Lake Michigan shore will need to continue to monitor these storms as they make their way on shore, likely down to as far south as the I69 corridor.
There's a bit of uncertainty regarding how strong these storms will remain, but for now certainly will want to watch these closely..
Be sure to have several ways to receive watches and warnings!
⚠️ MORE STORMS TO COME - Moving across Lake Michigan NOW ⚠️
RADAR AS OF 3:25PM
As the first round of more isolated storms moves out of the area, we turn our attention to a second that is on its way to Western Michigan in the coming hour or two.
Already seeing some severe warned cells off to our west and it looks like development will likely continue into SWMI.
Threats likely to remain isolated for the greater area, but those in SWMI will want to monitor these storms closely as they approach.
Gusty winds, hail, and torrential rain likely as these move through.
We will continue to update as able!
3:50PM Radar: We've got storms moving towards SWMI and Lake Michigan right now! Some of these storms have already had severe warnings and we expect additional development with these over the next little bit!
Keep an eye on changing conditions! What's the weather like where you're at right now?
12:10PM: Here comes the rain and storms! Portions of Southwest Michigan already seeing some rain, and some stronger storms as well soon to come onshore.
In areas Southeast especially, we've got our eyes on the threat for some isolated severe impacts. There's a greater risk down into Ohio and Indiana.
We will keep our eyes on these, as should you!
7:45PM: We've got some storms and showers moving into our area. There's a few storms that are strong to severe currently. We don't anticipate many to remain strong/continue to strengthen although a couple of stronger storms cannot be ruled out.
Enjoy the thunder and rain this evening.
8:30AM: We are kicking off our Friday with plenty of moisture and rain across much of the area! Temperatures are starting off quite cool but will gradually warm up through the day. Rain to clear up later as well!
12:00AM Radar: Storms impacting Central Michigan with additional storms expected to move into arwas further south in the coming couple of hours.
Several storms to our west have gone severe, even prompting tornado warnings, so tonight is definitely a night to make sure you have ways to receive warnings. Try out your weather radios and make sure you can receive cell phone alerts!
HAIL and WINDS remain the primary threats, but an isolated tornado or two isn't impossible still, although not likely!
9:20PM: A couple severe thunderstorms impacting northern Michigan into the night time hours! Large hail being reported at times along with gusty winds, lightning, and heavy rain!
Severe threat is ongoing for much of the Lower Peninsula, even extending south towards the lower half of the LP for more isolated hazards.
5:00PM Radar: Rain and a couple rumbles of thunder is currently moving into the SW portion of the state. This will kick off the weekend and extend likely throughout most of tomorrow where parts of the area will have a severe thunderstorm risk!
Happy Friday! Sorry we're starting the weekend wet.
7:45PM Radar: We continue to watch as some general showers and thunderstorms impact the central/Western parts of Michigan.
The Metro Grand Rapids region is currently seeing the strongest cell, with some hail and gusty winds included. No warnings as of now, but a storm or two could reach severe thresholds! Stay tuned.
