K-Town FM

K-Town FM Community Radio Station; recently awarded 5-Year FM license - Page Under Construction, updates & info to follow. http://ktownfm.digitalfife.com/

Brief History
K-Town FM, had it’s humble beginnings in 2007: the brainchild of a group local Kinglassie (Fife Based former Coal-Mining Village) based young people, with an appetite and vision of launching a broadcasting Radio Station in their locale; this vision became a realty, as a result of research, training, fund-raising and a lot of hard-work. Overview
K-Town FM now has three 28-day RSL broa

dcast under its belt, a webcasting setup allowing presenters to broadcast online across the world – and the most significant of developments; K-Town FM has successfully secured a 5-Year FM Community Radio License to broadcast over an approximate radius of 5-miles to local towns and villages. Journey
This successful journey was made possible by the tenacity, hard-work and commitment of K-Town’s Staff, Kinglassie Action Group (KAG) and all of the continued efforts of our volunteers and associates over the past 6 years. Over this period, K-Town has built up a track-record of engaging with a large cross-section our local-community, giving the people of Kinglassie and the surrounding areas a voice, and garnering praise and recognition from all walks of the community; including substantial favourable press coverage and awards and commendations (4 young members of our radio project won a Kingdom FM Local Hero Award - The Original youth group won a YOSCAR – HMIE cited our project as an example of good practice - The station was also a finalist in Creative Fife Awards). Content
In relation to our programme content, we have covered the whole gamut of the musical spectrum in our output (thanks to the greatly eclectic tastes, passion and depth of knowledge of our presenters), with a focus on exposure from local-music acts (including live sessions and interviews); our speech output follows the same dynamic trajectory as our musical output; we have knowledgeable presenters who’ve produced and presented shows covering a range of topics in particular Issues that effect the community, including bespoke shows appealing directly to the migrant element of our locale. We’ve used the station as a platform to raise the profile of local events and news that otherwise might have been overlooked; helping local causes gain traction and illuminating listeners on avenues of community life that rarely gets covered by traditional media sources. Future
We are committed to maintaining and furthering our existing relationship with the community in a number of ways: through our open-access approach policy; our continued commitment to providing training opportunities to volunteers and content providers of a high standards; through our relationship with local partners (including Fife College and Glenwood High School), business, charities and causes. Our training and volunteering opportunities have provided avenues for participants to further their skills, develop confidence, and improve employment potential as well as gaining core skills and abilities that have lead to further Education places, previously out of reach. We have skilled and experienced producers based at K-Town who’ve provided bespoke advertising and audio based promotion material for a range of businesses, organisations and institutions across Fife; we plan to reach out to more businesses and organisation in the near future so we can maintain this symbiotic, mutually advantages relationship. In the coming weeks we hope to re-engage in our online-broadcasting initiative with our internet station broadcasting three nights a week and two afternoons. K-Town FM Broadcasting
In order to make our goal of utilising our OFCOM 5-Year FM license and making our Local Community Radio Station a reality, we will be working tirelessly to secure the requisite funding and backing to cover our operational and logistical costs, while continuing to plan, structure and organise for the future of the station. We will be looking for committed volunteers to help us in this integral process, taking up roles befitting your talents and backgrounds; we’ll also be looking at potential Fundraising option in the coming weeks, that you the community will hopefully get behind and support.
