Happy Philippine Independence Day❤️🔥
Remember our struggles are beyond finding our identities, remember our struggles are braided in the ways we’ve been oppressed and also oppressors at the hands of colonialism, remember our freedom is in the confrontation of our true selves and our place in this world, and how we can do good for the liberation of people through knowledge and action.

Grateful for the people who fought for my freedom to create, freedom to be in community with so many different people, and freedom to see what’s possible for the world.

Catchy, raw and unapologetically sexy, Toronto-based, all-women kulintang ensemble Pantayo is back with a brand new video for “One More Latch (Give It To ‘Ya)” premiering exclusively today on Hella Pinay 🖤
The opening track off their sophomore LP, Ang Pagdaloy, released last month on Telephone Explosion Records, “One More Latch” is a sultry, gong-infused meditation on desire and desirability from a queer, diasporic Filipinx perspective.
Speaking to the single, Toronto-based filmmaker and Pantayo collaborator Tricia Hagoriles says; "With the visceral use of only gongs, drums and vocals, ‘One More Latch (Give it to Ya)’ feels like an homage to women musicians in the 90s that wrote or performed songs about their own sexual desires (ie. TLC’s ‘Creep’ and Janet Jackson’s ‘That’s the Way Love Goes’). Which, for an all-women Filipina band near-explicitly expressing sexual desire, is a point of subversion in itself.”

Harriet Brown is a Filipino-American artist, producer, songwriter and DJ based in Los Angeles, originally from the Bay Area, CA. His experimental electronic productions are heavily based in the songwriting traditions of R&B and Soul, from which he branches out to many different worlds of sound. He originally moved to LA in 2014 to release his first EP New Era on the small tape label Feel So Real, before going on to release two full-length albums – Contact (2017) and Mall of Fortune (2019) – through independent label Innovative Leisure. He has also been a resident host on @nts_radio since 2016, with his own monthly show, “All About Our Love”. Now, he’s starting anew with a fresh sound and vision as he independently releases his EP, Future Twang – a swift collection of five songs meant to embody the sound of a Sci-fi Vampire Western, fully written, produced and mixed by Harriet himself at Booted Man Studio in South Los Angeles.

We’re super excited to share Brooklyn-based rapper, poet and musician KAYA’s brand new video for “Harana x Half Free”!
Actually two songs b2b: the first, “Harana,” is a flip on the rural serenade tradition in which young men may formally meet single lady visitors. “I don’t believe in raising daughters to revolve partnership or intimacy around being approached first," KAYA says. "I think it is important for young Filipinas and young people period to speak honestly about the things they experience in romance and intimacy.”
The second track, “Half Free,” refers to a term she began using “to talk about Filipinos in NYC and America at large. No matter where our people stand, know that this nation we sometimes claim as our own soil, and find security through sacrifice in, never wanted us free.”

One of our faves Kelady just dropped the video for her latest single "Kulog" ("Thunder" in Tagalog)⚡️⛈⚡️
Weaving through humid tunnels of bamboo, the LA-based artist's new MV explores the crippling experience of losing one’s self through visuals referencing the Manananggal of Philippine folklore who, according to legend, uses a long flexible tongue to prey on unborn children in the wombs of sleeping pregnant women along with the hearts and livers of men she seduces while in her human form.
"One of my favorite moments is when we recorded a bamboo stick slapping and scraping against a concrete floor to mimic the sounds of Tinikling dance – this gave the track an earthy feeling and helped open up more ideas,” Kelady shares.
