Harvesting a jake is great for any youth or first-time turkey hunter. Each state has different laws on how many you can harvest and what type of turkey you can hunt. Being able to know the difference between a jake and a tom is useful for this.
Jakes and toms have physical differences in the size of their beards and spurs. The way their tail feathers fan out during full strut can also indicate a jake versus tom. Watch as Haley Heath and her sons Gunner and Gauge, and daughter Dakota teach you the key differences.
