Even with ever advancing technology that continues to disrupt the way we do things, the media remains an integral part of our daily lives; playing a vital role in shaping our perspectives, informing us about current events, and influencing societal norms.
From traditional platforms such as television, radio, and newspapers to modern digital media outlets, the media has a significant impact on individuals and society as a whole.

I today represented our media house, MILLENNIUM MEDIA SERVICES (K) LIMITED & Radio Mikayi during the first day of the two days Roundtable Engagement Forum- Western & Nyanza Region convened by the industry regulator Communications Authority of Kenya at Ciala Resort -Kisumu.

On its part, the CA urged the media managers to uphold and adhere to the Programming Code for Broadcasting Services whose latest edition (4th Ed) was released in early April this year.

The media on the other hand urged the authority to review some of its compliance requirements to be more fair to all industry players rather than punitive.

The 2 day event that drew media managers and producers from the lake region counties of Siaya, Homa Bay, Kakamega, Kisumu, Migori, Nyamira and Kisii is expected to end tomorrow.

KIKUYU NORMS AND BELIEFS !!

1. A man should pay for his wife's dowry before his first born son faces the knife.

2. Ni haramu, wizi na ukiukaji wa kanuni na desturi za wakikuyu kwa wazazi wa msichana kuitisha pesa ya chakula wakati mashemeji wanapeleka mahari. A son in law is your son and must always find food in his mother's house. Asking for money to cater for food during dowry is conmanship and brokerage. Gwitia athoni aku mbeca cia irio nigucambithia muthuri mwene mucii na muhiriga wao.

3. No boy should face the knife before being blessed by his uncle. If you don't get the blessings of your uncle kijana atakunywa pombe na kufukuzana na wanawake kila pahali. Again , ungiaga kuheyo irua ni mamaguo ,ngomi cianyu cigutura ciui wee wii kihii.

4. You should never visit your in laws for dowry negotiations if your wife is pregnant. You have to wait for her to deliver.

5. If you are a single mother and your son is ready for circumcision , go look for his father and inform him.Mwana wa kahii aruaga ta ithe.

6.Stop carrying cabbages, potatoes and maize to your inlaws. Uthoni utwaragwo marigu matatu; Mùraru , Mùnjùù na mùtahato.

7. Ni mugiro kuuga mbu hindi ya uthoni kana kihiko. Wale huwa wanasema wapi nduru, wanafaa waache kabisa. Kuu ni guthemenga kihiko. Andu mabatiì kuuga ngemi.

8. Gutiri muthuri ubatii gutwara mwanake utaheirwo irua ni mamawe uthoni. Gwika uguo nigutwara kihii uthoni.

9. If a young man is visiting his in laws for the first time, women should not close the gate . Doing so implies that the young man has married from brokers and a reckless homestead. On the first visit in laws should be welcomed without much drama.

10. A man using his mother's name as a surname is shaming his mother. Guku ni kumenyithia kirindi ati nyina ni mukoma thi. He should talk to his eldest uncle to slaughter a goat and adopt him as his son and thus use his uncle's name as his surname. Gikuyu gutiri mwana utari ithe.

11. In Kikuyu we don't have anything to do with number seven. We don't hold ceremonies in July, we don't give birth to 7 kids, we don't give 70 goats during dowry or 70k.

12. If you contribute money towards the dowry of your friend, you have participated in wrecking a homestead. Resist the temptation to help a friend break his family.

13. It's a taboo for a woman to see his father inlaw either going or coming from the toilet. This is meant to discourage young men from using the same gate as his father or putting up A house in his father's compound.
