Ice maker is running on the south end of Sodus Bay

Good morning from Sodus Bay. At 3 degrees we are making ice as we speak and inching our way closer and closer to what I believe is going to be a great ice season. As always, I’ll post updates as needed. Have a great day!

Interested in learning about how to attract birds to your birdfeeder during the winter months? Pine Creek along with Trailworks is sponsoring this event at the Lyons Community Center at 6:30 p.m., on Tuesday, January 4, 2022. Please call Pine Creek to make a reservation at 315-946-6061.

About the Seminar:
This 1hr – 1.5hr wild bird feeding seminar will cover the most common bird food and feeder types, as well as which backyard birds can be attracted to your feeders. Our seed feeding discussion will cover all the different Aspen Song branded wild bird feed blends and the ingredients that are used in each of the blends, making each a unique choice based on which types of birds a consumer is interested in attracting. We will also talk about hummingbird feeding using the Sweet-Nectar branded hummingbird nectar, how to attract hummingbirds, and appropriate feeder placement during the summer months. While this seminar is focused on the Aspen Song wild bird food and Sweet-Nectar branded hummingbird nectar, the knowledge about seed, nectar, and feeder preferences of common backyard birds can be applied to any brand and any backyard!

About the Presenter:
Josh Stasik holds a B.S. in Biology and is currently an acting trustee of the Wild Bird Feeding Institute’s (WBFI) Research Foundation. He is a past member of the Montezuma Audubon Center’s Advisory Board.
Josh has been feeding his backyard birds since childhood and has worked in the wild bird food industry for the past decade. Taking the approach of “never working a day in your life if you love what you do,” he partnered with a few of his friends to create a small “micro-batch” bird food company called Sweet-Seed, LLC. Sweet-Seed initially created wild bird food blends that sold at local gift shops and markets, but has since switched focus to concentrate primarily on a unique, all-natural, hummingbird food, branded as Sweet-Nectar.
It was through the connections made selling Sweet-Nectar that Josh became acquainted with the Aspen Song brand of wild bird food and moved into the wild bird director position for the brand. As the key contact for all sales and marketing initiatives, Josh is now able to travel throughout the Northeastern territory of the US not only sharing his knowledge, but also learning from other bird enthusiasts he meets along the way.

Blood, sweat, and tears...that’s what usually goes into any musical production process. But this year we added temp checks, masks, social distancing (12 feet when singing up until last month!), no sustained physical contact (no partner dancing or even high fives!), finding alternative space for performing, minimal props, filming angles, sunlight, sound recording, training camera operators, sound and film editing, chunks of time when students had to quarantine, acquiring a remote streaming license, dealing with streaming technology...and most heartbreaking of all - not feasibly having a live audience.

YOU, the audience, make theatre special! We look forward to welcoming you back to live performances in the future. Thank you for welcoming us into your homes this weekend! The show starts at 7:00pm tonight and tomorrow and 2:00pm on Sunday. We promise it’s like nothing you’ve ever seen on the NHS stage before! Get ready to ROCK! 🎸🎭

Join the free zoom Trailworks link on Tuesday, April 13. at 7:00 p.m. I will be sharing my knowledge and photography of the stunning spring wildflowers of Wayne County.

https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89839184202...

Yes, after a long winter through the heart of a Covid 19 lockdown where it seems we were trapped in a dark cloud overhanging our heads the snow melts, the days get longer, and the wildflowers will come. This awakening happens every year in the woods. What was once drab and brown, suddenly turns into a blanket of stunning blooms. These wildflowers are a gift from God’s hand. They appear without tilling, planting, or cultivating. This breathtaking display of beauty will only last for a few short weeks before the trees have their full canopy and the flowers wither away. Join me and learn about all these wonderful gems that grow in our woods nearby. During the presentation you will learn when they flower and where to find the wildflowers of spring.

Ice conditions report from the south end of Sodus Bay

Today’s view from the shop. Ice at the south end is 4-5”. Third creek reports are 3-4” with some spotty areas. Not a lot of snow on the ice, most blew off overnight. Perch are being caught, seeing a mix of sizes depending on the area.
