This is a good program that you will learn a lot from.
Lewisville Police Department is now taking applications for the Citizen Police Academy. It’s an informative partnership designed to give residents a better understanding of what police officers do every day, and provides insights into the philosophy, internal values, and operations of the department.
Online applications are available on the “Citizen Police Academy Application” page at cityoflewisville.com.
The 10-week course begins Thursday, Sept. 5, and continues through Thursday, Nov. 7. Class time is 9 a.m.-noon each Thursday in the Lower Level of Lewisville City Hall, 151 W. Church Street.
Class size is limited to 30 people. Participants must live or work in Lewisville. There is no fee to participate.
Topics of instruction include K-9 program, Crisis Negotiations, SWAT, Jail Operations, Communications, Criminal Investigations, Traffic Operations, Narcotics, and more.
After graduation, students are encouraged to share their new knowledge with other residents to improve the efficiency of law enforcement in Lewisville. Students also will become eligible to do “ride-alongs” with patrol officers.
Graduates may join the CPA Alumni Association and can be considered for participation in numerous volunteer activities, such as COP (Citizen On Patrol) – the volunteer program managed by residents that provides the police with extra eyes and ears through patrolling activities.
