VP Shettima says he'll donate trucks of bags rice to victims Borno flood disaster.
Let them eat rice and forget about their properties for now. They are asking for stew, but if he can't get stew, he should provide red oil, they can get sea salt from the flood.
In Nigeria everything starts and ends with rice. The people of Ghana and other neighboring countries are jealous of Nigerians. They wish their own government can steadily donate rice to them whenever they complain of power outage that happens once in a long while.

On The Borno Flood.

There's a very nonchalant attitude towards maintenance of public infrastructure by the government and various agencies.
A dam that undergoes various and consistent maintenance will not collapse without showing signs.
Those responsible see no reason for scheduled maintenance. The worst is that when funds for maintenance is budgeted, one head of department or director will use it pay to his or her child's school fees abroad.
We build infrastructure without making plans for routine maintenance. Basic engineering/project management understands that maintenance is as important as the construction.
A whole city is completely flooded due to the collapse of the Alau dam, a situation that is easily avoidable. We have a disgusting penchant for spending recklessly. Maintenance would have cost us less than regaining the city.
The disaster will definitely benefit someone in office.
We need to do more as a country.

The White Roman Catholic Priest and the Village Masquerade.

My dad once told me a story about my grandfather. It was a tale of a remarkable encounter between my grandfather and a White Roman Catholic Priest.

In my grandfather's absence, one of his followers took out his masquerade and, during the outing, had a confrontation with a White Priest. The priest, feeling disrespected, chased after the masquerade, who, in desperation, begged for forgiveness. Upon my grandfather's return, he was informed that his masquerade had been seen begging a White Priest, an act that was considered dishonorable in his eyes.

Determined to defend his dignity, my grandfather took the masquerade, marched to the church, and confronted the priest. He went so far as to flog the priest and chase him away before others intervened and stopped him.

Then, as an alter boy, the story was strange to me, I knew how the Nigerian priest I served was respected, not to talk to of a White priest.
