Radio Voice of the Gospel (RVOG) was created by the Lutheran World Federation in Geneva as an international radio station based in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa. The founder and General Director RVOG was Norwegian Dr. Sigurd Aske who was instrumental in hiring staff from all around the globe from
countries including the USA, UK, Canada, Scandinavia, France Germany, India, Nigeria, Tanzania
and Ethiopia
The international staff network included Script writers, Program Producers, Technicians, News Readers, Writers, Accountants, Admin Staff and more
The staff were ecumenical
The news broadcasts were internationally renown for their accuracy and impartiality
The radio station had two powerful 100 kilowatt shortwave transmitters and Medium Wave kilowatt for local transmissions. The station was able to reach most of the African continent including Madagascar, the Middle and Far East. It quickly attracted an international following with letters of praise arriving from as far away as India. There were 14 studios including 9 regional studios in countries where they were heard
In addition to religious programming, there was a wide range of secular and informative programs with topics on Music, News, Current Affairs, General Knowledge, Health, Drama, Youth Issues, Entertainment on air for 24 hours
RVOG implemented and ran workshops and training centers in Addis Ababa and Nairobi. RVOG was instrumental in providing scholarships for employees to train and study overseas
