If you’re looking for a fun way to spend your Monday night, AU’s Department of Languages and Literatures is holding a free and public faculty reading, and our director, Dr. Chuck Carlise, is one of the featured faculty members! It’s December 4th at 7 p.m. in Ronk Lecture Hall, which you will see as you walk into the main entrance of Dwight Schar College of Education.

If you're looking for some poetry on a rainy day like today, "Midwest Gothic" (2020) by Laura Donnelly is perfect. Her lyrical, yet almost haunting style of writing makes her descriptions of daily life and relatable experiences truly captivating.

These lines come from the poem “Talking to the Bones:” by David Mills. The full poem can be found in Boneyarn (2021) on page 43.

This collection of poems focuses on New York’s African Burial Ground and in Alan Shapiro’s words, “conducts a heart-wrenching yet historically meticulous excavation of America’s contradictory allegiances to freedom and slavery, equality and racial hatred.”
